Introduction: Millions of people living in volcanic environments are at risk of experiencing volcanic eruptions, a natural disaster. This systematic review aimed to collect empirical evidence of the effects of volcanic eruptions on the mental health of the exposed populations.
Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted systematic searches on Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, Medline, and Web of Science (WoS) databases.

High-throughput biosensor screening and optimization are critical for health and environmental monitoring applications to ensure rapid and accurate detection of biological and chemical targets. Traditional biosensor design and optimization methods involve labor-intensive processes, such as manual pipetting of large sample volumes, making them low throughput and inefficient for large-scale library screenings under various environmental and chemical conditions. We address these challenges by introducing a modular droplet microfluidic system embedded with custom CMOS integrated circuits (ICs) for impedance spectroscopy and bioluminescence detection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA multi-objective optimization is performed to obtain fueling conditions in hydrogen stations leading to improved filling times and thermodynamic efficiency (entropy production) of the de facto standard of operation, which is defined by the protocol SAE J2601. After finding the Pareto frontier between filling time and total entropy production, it was found that SAE J2601 is suboptimal in terms of these process variables. Specifically, reductions of filling time from 47 to 77% are possible in the analyzed range of ambient temperatures (from 10 to 40 °C) with higher saving potential the hotter the weather conditions.

Lysine acetyltransferase 8, also known as KAT8, is an enzyme involved in epigenetic regulation, primarily recognized for its ability to modulate histone acetylation. This review presents an overview of KAT8, emphasizing its biological functions, which impact many cellular processes and range from chromatin remodeling to genetic and epigenetic regulation. In many model systems, KAT8's acetylation of histone H4 lysine 16 (H4K16) is critical for chromatin structure modification, which influences gene expression, cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis.

We present in this work a kinetic model of the acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation based on enzyme kinetics expressions. The model includes the effect of the co-substrate NADH as a modulating factor of cellular metabolism. The simulations obtained with the model showed an adequate fit to the experimental data reported by several authors, matching or improving the results observed with previous models.

The controlled grafting of polymers from small- and macro-molecular substrates is an essential process for many advanced polymer applications.
