We describe three females who since childhood and puberty have presented with several relapsing episodes of acute or chronic LKM positive hepatitis. Many episodes resolved spontaneously with recovery of normal liver function, although treatment with steroids, steroids/azathioprine was used at occasions. No clear pattern of precipitating factors has emerged though in some cases possible temporal relationship of episodes to menarche, oral contraceptives use or pregnancy has suggested a role for female sex hormones.

The vascularization of tumours is a critical parameter of their growing and metastatic behaviour. However, little is known about the morphologic reactions of the microvasculature, especially the capillary bed of tumours and the adjacent tissue. The purpose of this work was to produce rabbit anti-cockatiel immunoglobulin G (IgG) and compare its cross-reactivity with sera from eight other psittacine birds: Quaker parakeet, budgerigar, green-wing macaw, blue-fronted Amazon parrot, eclectus parrot, African grey parrot, Patagonian conure, Moluccan cockatoo. Cockatiel IgG did not bind to protein A or G; therefore, these proteins could not be used in column chromatography to isolate the IgG. A combination of serum IgG precipitation by ammonium sulfate and yolk IgG extraction from egg was loaded in sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel upon which the IgG was resolved by electrophoresis.

The frequent variations of human complement component C4 gene size and gene numbers, plus the extensive polymorphism of the proteins, render C4 an excellent marker for major histocompatibility complex disease associations. As shown by definitive RFLPs, the tandemly arranged genes RP, C4, CYP21, and TNX are duplicated together as a discrete genetic unit termed the RCCX module. Translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is a large protein of more than 800 amino acids which establishes complex interactions with the ribosome in order to catalyze the conformational changes needed for translation elongation. Unlike other yeasts, the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans was found to have a single gene encoding this factor per haploid genome, located on chromosome 2. Ste20/PAK serine/threonine protein kinases have been suggested as playing essential roles in cell signalling and morphogenesis as potential targets of Cdc42 and Rac GTPases. We have isolated and characterized the Saccharomyces cerevisiae SKM1 gene, which codes for a novel member of this family of protein kinases. The amino acid sequence analysis of Skm1p revealed the presence of a PH domain and a putative p21-binding domain near its amino terminus, suggesting its involvement in cellular signalling or cytoskeletal functions.
