Background And Purpose: Migraine is a common neurological disabling disorder, and anomalies of vascular function have been implied in its pathophysiology. Several findings point to a possible role of the endothelin receptor type A (EDNRA) in migraine. We aim to assess the involvement of endothelin receptor type A (EDNRA) in migraine susceptibility in a sample of Portuguese migraineurs.

Objectives: Migraine pathophysiology involves several pathways. Our aims were to explore a possible role of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene (BDNF) in migraine susceptibility; to study, for the first time, the calcitonin gene-related peptide gene (CGRP); and a possible interaction between the two.

Methods: Using a case-control approach, four tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs7124442, rs6265, rs11030107, and rs2049046) of BDNF and one tagging SNP-rs1553005-of CGRP were analyzed in 188 cases and 287 controls.

Background: The use of topical negative pressure (TNP) dressings with dermal regeneration template (DRT), Integra, has improved outcomes and simplified aftercare. Previous clinical studies have suggested accelerated vascularisation; with a reduction in the duration of the 1st stage after the application of Integra, from 2 to 4 weeks to as little as 4 days, but with no histological evidence. However, histological studies, without TNP, have shown that vascularisation occurs between the second and the fourth week.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a clinically heterogeneous disease translating the different genetic and environmental factors involved. Polymorphisms at several loci, including the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), have been associated worldwide with SLE, although inconsistencies exist among these studies mainly due to genetic heterogeneity between populations and sample characteristics. The aim of the present study was to investigate in Portuguese SLE the association of HLA-DRB1 alleles with clinical patterns of the disease and severity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how an oral rehabilitation program impacts chewing performance and ability based on the number of masticatory cycles among subjects with different dental setups: implant-supported prosthesis, complete dentures, and natural teeth.
  • Masticatory performance was measured using artificial food (Optocal) analyzed through multiple chewing cycles, with results indicating improvements in particle size after increased chewing.
  • Findings revealed that subjects with fixed implant-supported prostheses had significantly better chewing performance after rehabilitation compared to those with complete dentures, with all participants in the implant group reporting satisfaction with their chewing ability post-treatment.
