Apple snails of the genus Perry, 1810 (Mollusca: Caenogastropoda: Ampullariidae) are native to the Neotropics and exhibit high species diversity, holding cultural and ecological significance as an important protein source in Peru. However, most genetic studies in have focused mostly on invasive species, especially in Southeast Asia, where they are considered important pests. In this study, we assembled and annotated the mitochondrial genomes of two species native to the Peruvian Amazon: Ampuero & Ramírez, 2023 and (Deville & Hupé, 1850).

Objective: To assess antitumor activity and safety of intraperitoneal (IP) olvimulogene nanivacirepvec (Olvi-Vec) virotherapy and platinum-based chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab in patients with PRROC.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This open-label, nonrandomized multisite phase 2 VIRO-15 clinical trial enrolled patients with PRROC with disease progression following their last prior line of therapy from September 2016 to September 2019.
During the past century eight species of sea hares of the genus Aplysia were recorded from Peru. However, there is disagreement about how many of these species are valid and their taxonomy needs to be critically evaluated. Based on detailed morphological examinations, this study presents a redescription of Aplysia nigra d'Orbigny, 1837 and Aplysia inca d'Orbigny, 1837, the most common species of Aplysia along the Peruvian coast.

We sought to assess oncologic outcomes at multiple centers between minimally invasive (MIS) radical hysterectomy and OPEN radical hysterectomy.
Methods: This is a multi-institutional, retrospective cohort study of patients with 2009 FIGO stage IA1 (with lymphovascular space invasion) to IB1 cervical carcinoma from 1/2007-12/2016.
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumor, with a median survival at diagnosis of 16-20 months. Metabolism represents a new attractive therapeutic target; however, due to high intratumoral heterogeneity, the application of metabolic drugs in GBM is challenging. We characterized the basal bioenergetic metabolism and antiproliferative potential of metformin (MF), dichloroacetate (DCA), sodium oxamate (SOD) and diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON) in three distinct glioma stem cells (GSCs) (GBM18, GBM27, GBM38), as well as U87MG.

It is a surprising fact that they often obey the so-called scaling laws relating an observable quantity with a measure of the size of the system. Here we describe the discovery of universal superlinear metabolic scaling laws in human cancers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLow grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) is a slowly growing, relatively chemoresistant neoplasm that is associated with a more favorable prognosis, especially compared to the disease's high-grade serous counterpart. We recount a case involving a 47-year-old, heavily pretreated LGSOC patient who presented with an elevated CA-125 of 1047 U/mL during her recent course of pemetrexed therapy. Thereafter, she underwent molecular profiling, which revealed a BRAF V600E mutation; accordingly, the patient was administered dabrafenib and trametinib combination therapy, a regimen that resulted in a precipitous decline of her CA-125 to 35 U/mL following the 6th cycle.

Nevertheless, the precise risk of identifying a sarcoma following uterine morcellation remains indeterminate, primarily due to varying study patient risk factors, diagnostic criteria and operative approach.

Study Design: We retrospectively evaluated the charts of presumed, clinical stage I endometrial cancer patients who underwent robotic-assisted surgery that incorporated mapping with ICG and SLN dissection from January 2016 until February 2017. Patient demographics, operative characteristics (e.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of gynecologic oncology patients treated in the community hospital setting either under the auspices of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol or in accordance with physician discretion.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated a series of consecutive gynecologic oncology patients who were managed via open surgery in coincident with an ERAS pathway from January 2015 to December 2016. They were compared with a historical open surgery cohort who was treated from November 2013 to December 2014.
Purpose: Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) potentially confers significant survival benefits in the management of ovarian cancer although the long-term data remain scant. We sought to compare the survival rates of advanced stage ovarian cancer patients who were treated with primary induction therapy alone or in conjunction with consolidation HIPEC.
Methods: 69 ovarian cancer patients who underwent surgery and completed their primary induction chemotherapy were treated with consolidation carboplatin (AUC 10) based HIPEC and compared to a historical cohort that received surgery and primary chemotherapy alone (n = 69).
Tumor-cell-secreted extracellular vesicles (EVs) can cross the disrupted blood-brain barrier (BBB) into the bloodstream. However, in certain gliomas, the BBB remains intact, which might limit EVs release. To evaluate the ability of tumor-derived EVs to cross the BBB, we used an orthotopic xenotransplant mouse model of human glioma-cancer stem cells featuring an intact BBB.

We sought to compare the postoperative outcomes of ovarian cancer patients treated with either TPN or conservative management.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the impact of TPN and conservative management in ovarian cancer patients who underwent debulking surgery and a bowel resection.
Background: Despite the alleged benefits conferred by a lymphadenectomy in the management of gynecologic malignancies, there are concerns regarding the development of postoperative lower-extremity lymphedema. The purpose of this study was to identify the incidence of lymphedema and associated risk factors in accordance with surgical staging during the management of endometrial and cervical cancer.
Method: We conducted a 5-year review of all endometrial and cervical cancer patients who underwent a lymphadenectomy.
Objective: The purpose of this pilot study was to compare the response rates and daily living activities of patients with newly diagnosed gynecologic cancer treated with fosaprepitant or aprepitant in the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
Methods And Materials: Eligible participants were randomized to either intravenous fosaprepitant (150 mg, day 1) or oral aprepitant (125 mg on day 1 and 80 mg on days 2-3) before undergoing weekly paclitaxel (80 mg/2)(2) and monthly carboplatin (AUC 6)-based chemotherapy. In addition, standard premedications (eg, ranitidine, dexamethasone, and diphenhydramine) were administered intravenously on day 1.
Introduction: This retrospective study documented the rate of vaginal cuff dehiscence (VCD) in a large series of gynecologic patients who were treated with an endoscopic (robotic-assisted or laparoscopic) hysterectomy that incorporated either delayed absorbable monofilament barbed or vicryl running sutures.
Method: We sought to discern any prognostic associations between operative variables (e.g.
Background And Objectives: The intent of this retrospective study was to assess the operative outcomes of morbidly obese endometrial cancer patients who were treated with either open surgery (OS) or a minimally invasive procedure.
