Article Synopsis
  • Melanoma incidence has dramatically increased, with a high chance of metastasis; this study focused on analyzing the different patterns and timing of metastases from cutaneous melanoma.
  • A retrospective analysis of 575 patients showed that most metastases began in local lymph nodes, with systemic metastasis occurring in a smaller percentage; the location and thickness of the tumor affected the metastatic pathway.
  • The findings indicated that the timing of distant metastases is consistent across different pathways, suggesting limited effectiveness of sentinel lymph node biopsy on melanoma survival rates.
