Unlabelled: A novel Hendra virus (HeV) genotype (HeV genotype 2 [HeV-g2]) was recently isolated from a deceased horse, revealing high-sequence conservation and antigenic similarities with the prototypic strain, HeV-g1. As the receptor-binding (G) and fusion (F) glycoproteins of HeV are essential for mediating viral entry, functional characterization of emerging HeV genotypic variants is key to understanding viral entry mechanisms and broader virus-host co-evolution. We first confirmed that HeV-g2 and HeV-g1 glycoproteins share a close phylogenetic relationship, underscoring HeV-g2's relevance to global health.

Article Synopsis
  • Perampanel (Fycompa) is an antiepileptic drug used to treat generalized seizures, but there's limited knowledge on how to handle overdoses, especially in kids.
  • A case study describes a pediatric patient who experienced severe symptoms, including respiratory failure and coma, after ingesting a high dose of perampanel.
  • Clinicians need to recognize overdose symptoms and be ready for immediate interventions like resuscitation, as there are no known reversal agents and the medication has a very long half-life of 105 hours.

Background: Seizures occur frequently in pediatric patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly abusive head trauma (AHT). There are limited data on the effectiveness of fosphenytoin and levetiracetam to prevent posttraumatic seizures.

Methods: We performed a retrospective single center cohort study of children < 3 years old admitted with mild [Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score 13-15], moderate (GCS 9-12), and severe (GCS 3-8) TBI at a level I trauma center from 2011 to 2021.

Disturbances in the sleep-wake cycle are a debilitating, yet rather common condition not only in humans, but also in family dogs. While there is an emerging need for easy-to-use tools to document sleep alterations (in order to ultimately treat and/or prevent them), the veterinary tools which yield objective data (e.g.

Currently, there is no consensus guideline for initiating anticoagulation in patients with a traumatic or vascular brain injury. Initiating anticoagulation for management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) can vary significantly from 72 hours to 30 weeks due to the risk of hemorrhagic complications. The purpose of this study is to compare clinical outcomes using modified Rankin Score (mRS) in a patient population with early (≤ 3 days) versus late (> 3 days) initiation of therapeutic anticoagulation from the time VTE was diagnosed.

The Streptomyces sanglieri bacteriophages AxeJC, Cumberbatch, Eastland, Eklok, HFrancette, Ignacio, Piccadilly, and Vondra form a novel actinobacteriophage cluster, BP. These siphoviruses have circularly permuted genomes with an average size of 37,700 bp and a GC content of 71%. Each genome contains approximately 58 protein-coding genes, with no tRNAs.

A SBA15-Fluconazole composite (SBA15-Flu) was prepared to formulate a self-healing coating for mild steel. The composite was obtained by dispersing SBA15 in a methanolic solution containing Fluconazole (Flu). The materials were characterized by using different techniques.

We report the case of a young man with severe pulmonary hypertension caused by multiple thromboembolism subsequent to congenital protein C deficit. During the previous phase to haematological treatment we showed a very poor response to vasodilators evaluated by Doppler-Echocardiography. The etiological diagnosis was confirmed and initialized the anticoagulant treatment.

Two commercial plastics have been used to record infrared interference patterns when a CO(2) laser is used as a light source. Recording of transient and permanent interference gratings with different spatial frequencies was carried out. The diffraction efficiency for red light as a function of time for different exposure times is shown; maximum diffraction efficiencies attained were of the order of 30%.

In this paper we present the design of three Galilean-type telescope systems with magnifications of 2.2x, 4x, and 5x. These systems are free of the large weight and length as well as the reduced field of view, which are frequent undesirable properties of Galilean telescopes.
