Monitoring the impact of COVID-19 in France on cancer care: a differentiated impact.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial and lasting impact on care provision, particularly in the field of cancer care. National steering has helped monitor the health situation and adapt the provision and organisation of care. Based on data from the French administrative healthcare database (SNDS) on the entire French population (67 million people), screening, diagnostic and therapeutic activity was monitored and compared 2019 on a monthly basis.

18F-FDG PET/CT Detection of a Popliteal Mycotic Aneurysm Complicating Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia.

A 75-year-old man presented with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, fever, and right posterior knee pain. Venous Doppler ultrasound of the lower extremity showed an isolated right calf muscle vein thrombosis, without any sign of deep vein thrombosis. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed an intense focal uptake on the right popliteal artery, suggesting a mycotic aneurysm (MA).

Characterization of applicants for residency training in pathology: Does diversity exist?

Context: A diverse workforce has been shown to improve productivity and innovation. The level of diversity among pathology residency applicants has not previously been reported.

Objective: This study aims to characterize the applicants at an academic pathology department to gain a better understanding of diversity among them.

E-mental health care among young adults and help-seeking behaviors: a transversal study in a community sample.

Background: The Internet is widely used by young people and could serve to improve insufficient access to mental health care. Previous information on this topic comes from selected samples (students or self-selected individuals) and is incomplete.

Objective: In a community sample of young adults, we aimed to describe frequency of e-mental health care study-associated factors and to determine if e-mental health care was associated with the use of conventional services for mental health care.

Sex and dieting modify the association between emotional eating and weight status.

Background: Unlike other psychological correlates of weight status, emotional eating (EmE) has received relatively limited attention in the literature.

Objectives: We aimed to examine the association between the EmE score and weight status and the influence of sex and dieting on this association.

Design: A total of 8580 men and 27,061 women aged ≥18 y who participated in the NutriNet-Santé cohort study were selected in this cross-sectional analysis.

GaAs photovoltaics and optoelectronics using releasable multilayer epitaxial assemblies.

Compound semiconductors like gallium arsenide (GaAs) provide advantages over silicon for many applications, owing to their direct bandgaps and high electron mobilities. Examples range from efficient photovoltaic devices to radio-frequency electronics and most forms of optoelectronics. However, growing large, high quality wafers of these materials, and intimately integrating them on silicon or amorphous substrates (such as glass or plastic) is expensive, which restricts their use.

Semiconductor wires and ribbons for high-performance flexible electronics.

This article reviews the properties, fabrication and assembly of inorganic semiconductor materials that can be used as active building blocks to form high-performance transistors and circuits for flexible and bendable large-area electronics. Obtaining high performance on low temperature polymeric substrates represents a technical challenge for macroelectronics. Therefore, the fabrication of high quality inorganic materials in the form of wires, ribbons, membranes, sheets, and bars formed by bottom-up and top-down approaches, and the assembly strategies used to deposit these thin films onto plastic substrates will be emphasized.

Improvement of episodic memory in persons with mild cognitive impairment and healthy older adults: evidence from a cognitive intervention program.

The efficacy of cognitive training was assessed in persons with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and persons with normal cognitive aging. Forty-seven participants were included in this study: 28 with MCI and 17 controls. Twenty-one participants received intervention (20 MCI and 9 controls) and 16 participants (8 MCI and 8 controls) received no intervention (waiting-list group).

Hall effect in the accumulation layers on the surface of organic semiconductors.

We have observed the Hall effect in the field-induced accumulation layer on the surface of single-crystal samples of a small-molecule organic semiconductor rubrene. The Hall mobility muH increases with decreasing temperature in both the intrinsic (high-temperature) and trap-dominated (low-temperature) conduction regimes. In the intrinsic regime, the density of mobile field-induced charge carriers extracted from the Hall measurements, nH, coincides with the density n calculated using the gate-channel capacitance and becomes smaller than n in the trap-dominated regime.

Stamp collapse in soft lithography.

We have studied the so-called roof collapse in soft lithography. Roof collapse is due to the adhesion between the PDMS stamp and substrate, and it may affect the quality of soft lithography. Our analysis accounts for the interactions of multiple punches and the effect of elastic mismatch between the PDMS stamp and substrate.

Intrinsic charge transport on the surface of organic semiconductors.

The air-gap field-effect technique enabled realization of the intrinsic (not limited by static disorder) polaronic transport on the surface of rubrene (C42H28) crystals over a wide temperature range. The signatures of this intrinsic transport are the anisotropy of the carrier mobility, mu, and the growth of mu with cooling. Anisotropy of mu vanishes in the activation regime at low temperatures, where the transport is dominated by shallow traps.

Improved surface chemistries, thin film deposition techniques, and stamp designs for nanotransfer printing.

Nanotransfer printing represents an additive approach for patterning thin layers of solid materials with nanometer resolution. The surface chemistries, thin film deposition techniques, and stamp designs are all important for the proper operation of this method. This paper presents some details concerning processing procedures and other considerations needed for patterning two- and three-dimensional nanostructures with low density of defects and minimal distortions.

Elastomeric transistor stamps: reversible probing of charge transport in organic crystals.

We introduce a method to fabricate high-performance field-effect transistors on the surface of freestanding organic single crystals. The transistors are constructed by laminating a monolithic elastomeric transistor stamp against the surface of a crystal. This method, which eliminates exposure of the fragile organic surface to the hazards of conventional processing, enables fabrication of rubrene transistors with charge carrier mobilities as high as approximately 15 cm2/V.

Local and global processing of music in high-functioning persons with autism: beyond central coherence?

A multi-modal abnormality in the integration of parts and whole has been proposed to account for a bias toward local stimuli in individuals with autism (Frith, 1989; Mottron & Belleville, 1993). In the current experiment, we examined the utility of hierarchical models in characterising musical information processing in autistic individuals. Participants were 13 high-functioning individuals with autism and 13 individuals of normal intelligence matched on chronological age, nonverbal IQ, and laterality, and without musical experience.

Clinical and MRI long term evolution of intracavernous and carotid ophtalmic artery aneurysms, treated by common carotid ligation.

In four large, 15-25 mm, internal carotid artery aneurysms (3 intracavernous and 1 carotid ophthalmic), treatment by common carotid ligation was preferred. Pre- and postoperative MRI were obtained, at a delay between 5 to 9 years. Recovery of the ocular and visual symptomatology was a function of the role played by mechanical and/or ischaemic factors.

Local bias in autistic subjects as evidenced by graphic tasks: perceptual hierarchization or working memory deficit?

In the present study, copying tasks were used to assess hierarchical aspects of visual perception in a group of 10 nonsavant autistic individuals with normal intelligence. In Experiment 1, the hierarchical order of graphic construction and the constancy of this order were measured for the copying of objects and nonobjects. In comparison to control participants, autistic individuals produced more local features at the start of the copying.

The association of tranexamic acid and nimodipine in the pre-operative treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms.

In the scope of a late intervention policy on ruptured intracranial aneurysms, on D.+12 on an average, we first used tranexamic acid, at moderate doses: 3 g orally or 1.5 g intravenously per day.

The changing face of children's health: a positive state perspective.

In the midst of health care cutbacks, imposed or increasing copays, and managed care crises, the face of children's health care is undergoing significant changes. These, quite fortunately for the children of Texas, are positive changes, including the establishment of the Texas Healthy Kids Corporation and utilization of the newly implemented Children's Health Insurance Plan.

The influence of desmopressin on blood loss during spinal fusion surgery in neuromuscular patients.

Study Design: A double-blind study comparing the effects of desmopressin and a placebo (normal saline) on blood loss during spinal instrumentation for neuromuscular scoliosis.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of desmopressin acetate (DDAVP) in reducing operative blood loss in hemostatically normal patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery for neuromuscular scoliosis.

Summary Of Background Data: Desmopressin acetate has been shown to improve bleeding times and to provide surgical hemostasis in patients with platelet disorders.

Midazolam reduces vomiting after tonsillectomy in children.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of midazolam on vomiting after tonsillectomy in children. We compared 215 children aged 1.5-14 yr undergoing tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy under general anaesthesia with nitrous oxide and halothane.

Pathogenetic factors in chronic subdural haematoma and causes of recurrence after drainage.

The radiological aspect, pathology, treatment and results of 132 subdural haematomas observed in 100 patients, are discussed. The majority of these cases were characterized by a nonhomogenous CT scan picture, resulting from repeated bleeding in a previous subdural haematoma evolving to chronicity, or in a pre-existent subdural hygroma. Taking aspirin may have constituted a predisposing factor in 16% of our patients, whilst coagulation disturbances, including anticoagulant treatment, were observed in another 6%; ethylism was present in 11%.
