Fungal skin infections significantly contribute to the global human disease burden, yet our understanding of cutaneous immunity against dermatophytes remains limited. Previously, we developed a model of epicutaneous infection with Microsporum canis in C57BL/6 mice, which highlighted the critical role of IL-17RA signaling in antidermatophyte defenses. In this study, we expanded our investigation to the human pathogen Nannizzia gypsea and demonstrated that skin γδTCR and CD8/CD4 double-negative βTCR T cells are the principal producers of IL-17A during dermatophytosis.

We explored the capacity of natural eukaryotic plankton communities to incorporate the synthetic amino acid L-homopropargylglycine (HPG, analogue of methionine) using biorthogonal noncanonical amino acid tagging (BONCAT), and we compared it with prokaryotic HPG use throughout a 9-day survey in the NW Mediterranean. In 2004, a national nonprofit established a capacity-building assistance (CBA) program aimed at bolstering the capabilities of health departments and community-based organizations in implementing and evaluating HIV prevention interventions for racial and minority populations. Recognizing the need for a specialized CBA model to support HIV prevention programs, the program developed the Customized Holistic Analytical Networking Grassroots Evaluatory (CHANGE) approach. Rhino-cerebral aspergillosis is a rare phenomenon describing a contiguous spread of Aspergillus species from the paranasal sinuses to the intracranial space. In this case report, we describe a case of invasive rhino-cerebral aspergillosis arising in the setting of prolonged intranasal steroid use in an 81-year-old patient with chronic sinusitis. This case report emphasizes the importance of recognizing steroid use as a risk factor for invasive aspergillosis in otherwise immunocompetent individuals.

A 10-year monitoring program was developed to quantify the population dynamics of the long-snouted seahorse population in the Mar Menor coastal lagoon. Based on 985 underwater visual censuses, we estimated the long-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus Cuvier, 1829) population size in the Mar Menor lagoon and its reduction in size in the last decades, as well as the effect of eutrophication crises in 2016 and 2019 on the species. The annual recruitment for the 2013-2020 period was estimated by comparing the relative abundance of early seahorse life stages in the ichthyoplankton.
