Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive adult glioma (16-month median survival). Its immunosuppressive microenvironment limits the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
Objectives: To assess the effects of the ICIs antibodies anti-programmed cell death 1 (anti-PD-1) and anti-programmed cell death ligand 1 (anti-PD-L1) in treating adults with diffuse glioma.
Context: Plantar fasciopathy (PF) is a common, self-limiting condition with notable economic impact and multifactorial origins. Clinical tests help clinicians to identify specific dysfunction and limitations influencing PF's clinical course. This study aims to investigate whether body mass index (BMI) influences the performance of clinical tests and clinical presentation of individuals with PF and to determine whether BMI and clinical tests predict the clinical course of PF over a 3-month follow-up period.

Aim: To evaluate the association between selenium biomarkers and insulin resistance in women with obesity.
Methods: This case-control study recruited 84 women with obesity and 129 with healthy weight (control).
Introduction: Local treatment can be distressful to breast cancer patients. We aimed to evaluate how different types of local treatment impact the quality of life of patients.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, one-year postoperative Breast-Q Satisfaction with Breasts scores were used as a surrogate for Quality of Life.
Hydroelectric plants impact the dynamics of mercury accumulation and transfer to aquatic ecosystems and organisms. This study aimed to determine total mercury (THg) concentration in filtered water, aquatic macrophytes, and fish and assess the influence of fluvial regime (low-water, rising-water, and high-water) and the feeding habits of fish species caught upstream and downstream of the Curuá-Una hydroelectric dam in the Brazilian Amazon. THg levels were determined by cold-vapor atomic fluorescence spectrometry.

While novel biomarkers and immunotherapies are promising, further research into specific molecular targets is needed. Glycans, which are carbohydrate structures mainly found on cell surfaces, play crucial roles in health and disease.

Besides its potent antiplatelet properties, ticagrelor has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin- and vancomycin-resistant (MRSA and VRSA). Several retrospective studies in cardiovascular patients support an antibacterial effect of this drug which is not related to its antiplatelet activity.

To achieve the desired actuation, the alignment of the LCs has to be controlled during the printing process. In most cases studied before, the alignment relied on surface modifications and complex alignment patterns and concomitant actuation were not possible.

Exosomes (Exos) have been associated with various bone pathologies, and there is increasing recognition in the literature that they actively transport molecules throughout the body. The role of wear particles in osteoblast-derived Exos is unknown, and the potential contribution of Exos to osteoimmune communication and periprosthetic osteolysis niche is still in its infancy.

Exosome-based liquid biopsies offer a noninvasive method for early cancer detection and real-time disease monitoring. Clinical trials are underway to validate the efficacy of exosomal biomarkers for enhancing diagnostic accuracy and predicting treatment responses.

Objectives: To compare the clinical results of pulmonary vein (PV) isolation with the second-generation PVAC Gold catheter against AA treatment in elderly people with recurrent symptomatic paroxysmal AF, refractory to at least one AA, and without structural heart disease.
Methods: Sixty patients with paroxysmal AF ≥ 65 years old were randomized to two forms of treatment: group 1: CA and group 2: AA drugs.
BODIPYs have a well-established role in biological sciences as chemosensors and versatile biological markers due to their chemical reactivity, which allows for fine-tuning of their photophysical characteristics. In this work, we combined the unique reactivity of arylazo sulfones with the advantages of a "sunflow" reactor to develop a fast, efficient, and versatile method for the photochemical arylation of BODIPYs and other chromophores. This approach resulted in red-shifted emitting fluorophores due to extended electronic delocalization at the 3- and 5-positions of the BODIPY core.

In this process, ten -2-benzyl-1-phenylpropane-1,3-diols (85:15 to 92:8 dr) were obtained in good yields (41-87%) and excellent enantioselectivities (>99% ee for all compounds). Notably, the preferential reduction of the aldehyde moiety led to the in situ formation of 2-benzyl-3-hydroxy-1-phenylpropan-1-one intermediates.

Although tolerated overall, arrhythmias may occur after ventricular assist device implantation and can complicate patient management. We report on an infant with dilated cardiomyopathy who developed ventricular tachycardia followed by recalcitrant ventricular fibrillation, refractory to comprehensive medical therapy post Berlin Heart EXCOR® (BHE) implant.

The present study evaluates the association between histopathological findings and the results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in clinically suspected cases of CL.
Methodology: Skin samples were received in a laboratory from an endemic region of Brazil for over nine years.
Background: Spirituality has religious and nonreligious dimensions and is often linked to well-being, positive emotions, connection and meaning in life. Both empathy and resilience are important in medical training and future professional practice since they are considered core skills related to professionalism and patient care. Our study aimed to understand the relationships among spirituality, resilience, and empathy in medical students.

A search was carried out in the LILACS, PubMed/MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Web of Science and EMBASE databases including studies published between 2004 and 2024, written in the Latin-Roman alphabet. Accuracy studies with patients aged 18 years or over presenting benign and malignant lesions in the head and neck region that evaluated the performance of IRT in differentiating these lesions were included.

The main goal of the present study was to analyze the expression profile of cyclin D1 in patients with PC, and to determine possible correlations with clinical and histopathological features. A survey was conducted with 100 patients diagnosed with PC, who were treated at two reference hospitals in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, between 2013 and 2017. A review of clinical, epidemiological, and histopathological data was performed, Human Papillomavírus (HPV) DNA was detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and cyclin D1 expression analysis was performed using immunohistochemical techniques.
