Strategies to increase the anti-tumor efficacy of cytokine-induced killer cells (CIKs) include genetic modification with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) or the addition of soluble T-cell engaging bispecific antibodies (BsAbs). Here, CIKs were modified using a transposon system integrating two distinct anti-CD19 CARs (CAR-MNZ and CAR-BG2) or combined with soluble CD3xCD19 BsAb blinatumomab (CIK + Blina). CAR-MNZ bearing the CD28-OX40-CD3ζ signaling modules, and CAR-BG2, designed on the Tisagenlecleucel CAR sequence (Kymriah), carrying the 4-1BB and CD3ζ signaling elements, were employed.

Climate crisis can also affect the epidemiology and disease burden of gastrointestinal diseases because they have a connection with environmental factors and nutrition. Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a highly intensive procedure with a significant contribution to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

However, the presence of E6 and E7 from human papillomavirus type 38 impairs this mechanism via a new inhibitory complex formed by DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1)/PKR/ΔNp73α, which binds to the region formerly occupied by p53 in primary keratinocytes.

Thus, esophagogastric varices represent a major economic and population health issue. Patients with advanced chronic liver disease typically undergo an upper endoscopy to screen for esophagogastric varices.

GISTs, unlike other SELs, can exhibit malignant behavior, so differential diagnosis is critical to the decision-making process. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is considered the most accurate imaging method for diagnosing and differentiating SELs in the gastrointestinal tract by assessing the lesions precisely and evaluating their malignant risk.

LIPyV has some structural similarities to well-established animal and human oncogenic PyVs, such as raccoon PyV and Merkel cell PyV (MCPyV), respectively. In this study, we demonstrate that LIPyV early proteins immortalize human foreskin keratinocytes.

Diagnosis of CD is based on the evaluation of symptoms and anti-transglutaminase antibodies IgA (TGA-IgA) levels, with values above a tenfold increase being the basis of the biopsy-free diagnostic approach suggested by present guidelines. This study showcased the largest screening project for CD carried out to date in school children (n=20,000) aimed at assessing the diagnostic accuracy of minimally invasive finger prick point-of-care tests (POCT) which, combined with conventional celiac serology and the aid of an artificial intelligence-based system, may eliminate the need for intestinal biopsy.

Background: Direct bile ducts visualization through cholangioscopy has gained popularity due to its better diagnostic accuracy than a standard ERCP in indeterminate biliary stricture.
Methods: We aimed to review our catheter-based cholangioscopy interventions in patients with indeterminate biliary stenosis, using the SpyGlass Direct Visualization System (SDVS) and summarize our experience in terms of procedures and results. We collected 25 consecutive patients with indeterminate biliary stricture over 3 years.
Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PanNENs) are relatively rare, but their incidence has increased significantly in the last decades. Precise diagnosis and prognostic stratification are crucial for proper patient management. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is the modality of choice for diagnosis of solid pancreatic tumors, showing a higher tumor detection rate than other imaging modalities, especially for small size lesions.

In contrast with Crohn's disease, that can relate the entire thickness of the bowel wall, the inflammation of ulcerative colitis is limited to the colonic mucosa. Immune cells including activated T cells, plasma cells, mast cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells (DCs) trigger the inflammation.

A retrospective chart review of patients aged ≤ 18 years who were diagnosed with colonic polyp(s) from 2006 to 2019 in a tertiary hospital was included. Data collected included demographics, clinical presentation, interval of time between the onset of symptoms and the endoscopic diagnosis of colonic polyps, family history, characteristics of the polyp, and associated lesions.

Most of the ingested FBs pass through the gastrointestinal tract, but up to 20% of cases require endoscopic removal. In this study, we retrospectively reviewed all pediatric cases of FB ingestion requiring endoscopic removal over a 10-year period in a tertiary hospital to compare the symptoms at presentation and outcomes with those reported in previous studies and to assess the association of the outcomes with patient and FB characteristics.

In the beta human papillomavirus type 38 (HPV38) experimental model, the viral proteins E6 and E7 promote accumulation of a wild-type (WT) p53 form in human keratinocytes (HKs), promoting cellular proliferation. Inactivation of p53 by different means strongly decreases the proliferation of HPV38 E6/E7 HKs.

Prospective studies on the incidence, etiology, and prognosis of well-characterized patients with bleeding after thyroid surgery are lacking. Bleeding after thyroid surgery cannot be predicted or prevented even if risk factors are known in every single procedure, which enhances the im-portance of the following issues: (a) meticulous hemostasis and surgical technique; (b) coopera-tion with the anesthesiologist, i.e.

The balance between treatment indication and surgical risk is certainly an interesting topic for every thyroid surgeon. This paper is a review of recent literature from January 2005 up to April 2017.

Accordingly, the E6 and E7 oncoproteins from some beta HPV types are able to deregulate pathways related to immune response and cellular transformation. Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), in addition to playing a role in innate immunity, has been shown to be involved in the cellular stress response.

Methods: All patients with a colorectal neoplasms measuring 4 cm or more, who underwent ER at our institution between January 1996 and December 2008 were included in the study.
Results: In the study period, 67 ERs were carried out in 67 patients with a mean (±SD) age of 72±11 years.
Background And Study Aims: This study examines efficacy, outcome, and complications of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for large (> or = 20 mm) and giant (> or = 40 mm) sessile and flat colorectal polyps.
Patients And Methods: All EMRs carried out at our institution over a 9-year period, for large and giant sessile and flat colorectal polyps with an intensive and regular follow-up were evaluated. The rate of en bloc and piecemeal resection, complications, and recurrence were analyzed.
Schwannomas are rare tumours that originate in the neural sheath and account for only a small percentage of all retroperitoneal tumours. They are usually solitary, circumscribed and encapsulated lesions eccentrically located on proximal nerves or spinal nerve roots. Presentation is typically varied and non-specific, ranging from abdominal pain, an abdominal mass or an incidental finding.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for emergency surgery, though much progress has been made in this field, too. The Authors examine the most important abdominal diseases that can be diagnosed and, possibly, treated by the laparoscopic approach in the emergency setting, concluding that laparoscopic management of such conditions is a feasible proposition in many cases.

The authors discuss about three cases of Riedel's thyroiditis and report the outcome after total thyroidectomy in two cases and sub-total resection in the other one.
