In this article, we describe our experience developing and implementing a multipronged approach to improve performance across a strategic subset of quality measures within primary care. Detailed techniques include data visualization and analytics, process reengineering, team engagement, visual project management, continuous improvement methods and training, and incentives and recognition. We achieved positive change across 12 high priority measures which we deemed the "High Value Framework (HVF)" by fostering a collaborative, nonpunitive, problem-solving culture.

Cell-based assays for compound screening and profiling are fundamentally important in life sciences, chemical biology and pharmaceutical research. Most cell assays measure the amount of a single reporter molecule or cellular endpoint, and require the use of fluorescence or other labeled materials. Consequently, there is high demand for label-free technologies that enable multiple biomolecules or endpoints to be measured simultaneously.

OATP2B1, a member of the solute carrier (SLC) transporter family, is an important mechanism of substrate drug uptake in the intestine and liver and therefore a determinant of clinical pharmacokinetics and site of drug-drug interactions. Other SLC transporters have emerged as pharmacology targets. Studies of SLC transporter uptake to-date relied on radioisotope- or fluorescence-labeled reagents or low-throughput quantification of unlabeled compounds in cell lysate.

OATP2B1 is an intestinal and hepatic drug uptake transporter. Intestinal OATP2B1 has been elucidated as the mechanism of unexpected clinical drug-drug interactions (DDIs), where drug exposure was unexpectedly decreased with unchanged half-life. Hepatic OATP2B1 may be an understudied clinical DDI mechanism.

High temperatures rapidly induce a genetically programmed heat-shock response (HSR) that is essential to establish short-term acquired thermotolerance. In addition, an immediate HSR-independent metabolic response is triggered, resulting in an accumulation of unsaturated triacylglycerols (TAGs) in the cytosol. The metabolic processes involved in heat-induced TAG formation in plants and their physiological significance remain to be clarified.

Successfully reporting meaningful use of electronic health records to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services can be a challenging process, particularly for healthcare organizations with large numbers of eligible professionals. This case report describes a successful meaningful use attestation process undertaken at a major academic medical center. It identifies best practices in the areas of leadership, administration, communication, ongoing support, and technological implementation.
