This work evaluated the bone-forming potential of the platelet-derived growth factor isoform BB (PDGF-BB), insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), and mixed PDGF-BB/IGF-I delivered in liposomes compared with phosphate buffered saline (PBS), in the healing process of rat tooth sockets. One hundred and twelve Wistar rats were randomized into 7 groups of 16 animals each and were evaluated at 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after extraction of the maxillary second molars. The left sockets were treated with PBS (P), empty liposome (L), IGF-I in PBS (IP), IGF-I in liposome (IL), PDGF-BB in PBS (PDP), PDGF-BB in liposome (PDL) and both growth factors (GFs) together within liposomes (PDIL).

Objective: In this work we evaluated the bone-forming potential of BMP4, TGFβ1 and BMP4/TGFβ1 mixed by performing histological and morphometric analysis. We also evaluated the immunolabelling of fibronectin (FN) and collagen type III (Col III), two determinant proteins for the early phase of bone repair.

Design: Histological, histomorphometric and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to evaluate new bone and blood vessels formation as well as fibronectin and collagen type III expression.

Considering the potential use of growth factors carried by liposomes for bone repair, this study aimed to assess the progress of bone healing process in injured alveoli of rats after administering EGF within liposomes. For this assessment we used 48 male Wistar rats that had their maxillary second molar extracted and separated into 5 groups: sockets filled with blood clot (BC), treated with empty liposome (L), PBS (P), EGF in PBS (EGF-P) and EGF in liposome (EGF-L). The animals were sacrificed after 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after surgery.

Objective: In this study we investigated the possible use of human demineralised dentine matrix (DHDM), obtained from the extracted teeth, as bone graft material and evaluated the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) induced by this material in the healing process of tooth sockets of rats.

Design: To evaluate bone regeneration and expression of VEGF induced by DHDM, thirty-two male Wistar rats weighing approximately 200 g were used. After maxillary second molar extraction, the left sockets were filled with DHDM and the right sockets were naturally filled by blood clot (control).

Background: The recently constructed river buffalo whole-genome radiation hybrid panel (BBURH5000) has already been used to generate preliminary radiation hybrid (RH) maps for several chromosomes, and buffalo-bovine comparative chromosome maps have been constructed. Here, we present the first-generation whole genome RH map (WG-RH) of the river buffalo generated from cattle-derived markers. The RH maps aligned to bovine genome sequence assembly Btau_4.

Genomic sequence comparison across species has enabled the elucidation of important coding and regulatory sequences encoded within DNA. Of particular interest are the noncoding regulatory sequences, which influence gene transcriptional and posttranscriptional processes. A phylogenetic footprinting strategy was employed to identify noncoding conservation patterns of 39 human and bovine orthologous genes.
