Background: Brain cancer is a devastating and incurable disease that places a high burden of care on next of kin (NOK). NOK can play a core role in supporting end-of-life planning, including the decision to donate one's brain after death. Postmortem brain donation is crucial to research.

A cross-sectional study of the experiences of distressed callers when accessing financial assistance from a telephone-based cancer information and support service.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the experiences of distressed people calling helplines regarding offer and uptake of financial services after cancer diagnosis.

Methods: Cancer patients and caregivers reported whether they had discussed then used financial services and perceptions surrounding service uptake. Associations between being offered services and demographic, clinical and financial characteristics were explored.

The current evaluation explored the process components and outcomes of a Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program (COAP) initiative within a local law enforcement agency in the Southeast US.

Parental characteristics and permanent placement outcomes for 354 parents participating in a Central Florida FDTC were assessed using administrative data.

When a pandemic and epidemic collide: Lessons learned about how system barriers can interrupt implementation of addiction research.

Background: Telehealth technologies are now featured more prominently in addiction treatment services than prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but system barriers should be carefully considered for the successful implementation of innovative remote solutions for medication management and recovery coaching support for people with opioid use disorder (OUD).

Method: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded a telehealth trial prior to the COVID-19 pandemic with a multi-institution team who attempted to implement an innovative protocol during the height of the pandemic in 2020 in Tampa, Florida. The study evaluated the effectiveness of a mobile device application, called , which integrated remote motivational recovery coaching with daily supervised dosing from secure pill dispensers via videoconference, on medication adherence during buprenorphine treatment.

Thyroid cancer patient reported outcome measures in clinical practice: analysing acceptability and optimizing recruitment.

Background: Patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) can provide valuable metrics in clinical trials and cancer registries. To ensure relevance, patient participation must be optimized and PROMs be highly acceptable to patients. There are few data reporting methods to maximize recruitment and a lack of consensus regarding appropriate PROMs for thyroid cancer survivors.

Most thyroid cancer survivors regain their physical health-related quality of life, but psychological and social deficits persist. The nature of these detriments remains poorly understood and they are insufficiently captured by survey data alone. This study aims to identify cognitive assessments which are pragmatic and acceptable for use in clinical settings. MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Cochrane were searched to identify studies published in English between 1990 and 2021.

Considerations for implementation of vancomycin Bayesian software monitoring in a level IV NICU population within a multisite health system.

Purpose: The updated 2020 vancomycin therapeutic drug monitoring guideline advocates for area under the curve (AUC)-based monitoring in neonates, preferably with Bayesian estimation. This article describes the selection, planning, and implementation of vancomycin model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) software with Bayesian estimation in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) within an academic health system.

Summary: The selection, planning, and implementation of vancomycin MIPD software was completed in approximately 6 months throughout a health system with multiple NICU sites.

'Having the mask on didn't worry me until … they clamped my head down so I wouldn't move': A qualitative study exploring anxiety in patients with head and neck cancer during radiation therapy.

Introduction: More than 20% of patients undergoing radiation therapy for head and neck cancer report anxiety specifically related to the immobilisation mask, a tight-fighting mask patients are required to wear for the duration of each treatment session. However, limited research has investigated this from the patient perspective. The aim of this study was to better understand patient experiences of mask anxiety during head and neck cancer radiation therapy and to explore patient attitudes toward potential strategies that may reduce mask anxiety during this treatment.

The dynamic relationship between cancer and employment-related financial toxicity: an in-depth qualitative study of 21 Australian cancer survivor experiences and preferences for support.

Background: People with a cancer diagnosis experience physical and emotional impacts that may affect employment. Alongside cancer care costs, reduced ability to generate an income is a key contributor to financial toxicity which is associated with poor emotional wellbeing, quality of life, treatment adherence and survival. This study aimed to explore people's experiences of changes to employment and their suggestions for how cancer survivors can be better supported.

Purpose: People diagnosed with cancer experience high distress levels throughout diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Untreated distress is associated with poor outcomes, including worsened quality of life and higher mortality rates. Distress screening facilitates need-based access to supportive care which can optimize patient outcomes.

However, the accurate measurement of leadership traits and behaviours in health professionals has not been directly addressed. This review aimed to identify whether scales which measure leadership traits and behaviours have been found to be reliable and valid for use with health professionals.

Patient Perspectives on Detox: Practical and Personal Considerations through a Lens of Patient-Centered Care.

Inpatient detoxification is often required before a client can move on to additional substance abuse treatment services. Although often short-term, time spent in inpatient detoxification tends to have long-lasting effects on the recovery process. This qualitative study focuses on one treatment facility in Tampa, Florida that offers a range of recovery services, including inpatient detox and outpatient treatment.

Where's Dad? The Importance of Integrating Fatherhood and Parenting Programming into Substance Use Treatment for Men.

Large numbers of men enter substance use disorder treatment each year, yet very little attention is paid to the fatherhood and parenting status of these men. Substance use treatment programs rarely incorporate a parenting component into their treatment planning, despite increased success of women's treatment programs that focus on gender and motherhood. This paper provides: 1) a review of the literature on the fathering of substance using men, what has been learned from substance use disorder treatment for mothers, and the implications for children and families; 2) pilot quantitative and qualitative outcomes on implementation of a fatherhood focused intervention for men in a residential substance use treatment program; and 3) recommendations for the application of these findings for fathers in substance use disorder treatment and the implications of program modifications and increased focus on fathers for child welfare.

Despite positive outcomes for the incorporation of gender- and motherhood-focused programing within substance use disorder treatment programs for women, a focus on gender and fatherhood has not been the focus of intervention or evaluation research for men in substance use disorder treatment.
