Perceptions of family physicians in Istanbul about e-cigarettes as smoking cessation aids: a qualitative study.

Background: Family physicians (FPs) are the first point of contact for people who smoke who are seeking to quit smoking in Türkiye. We aimed to explore Turkish FPs knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of e-cigarettes as smoking cessation aids.

Methods: Eleven in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with FPs in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Background: A significant policy change impacting the availability of nicotine for use in electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) in Australia took effect from October 1, 2021. This change meant that nicotine containing liquids for use with e-cigarettes would only be available by prescription from a medical practitioner as part of a smoking cessation plan. This study aimed to explore general practitioners (GPs) perceptions about the role of e-cigarettes, and understand factors informing their intentions to prescribe e-cigarettes as part of a smoking cessation plan.

General practitioners' knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices surrounding the prescription of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation: a mixed-methods systematic review.

Background: General practitioners (GPs) play an important role in providing patients who smoke with health information, support and treatment to encourage them to quit smoking. Despite conflicting evidence on the effectiveness of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) as a smoking cessation aid, there is growing interest in the role e-cigarettes might play as an alternative to smoking tobacco. This systematic review aims to synthesise evidence from qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods studies of the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and social norms of GPs with respect to the use of e-cigarettes as smoking cessation aids.

The impact of smoking status on anticipated stigma and experience of care among smokers and ex-smokers with chronic illness in general practice.

Objectives: To compare self-reported levels of 'anticipated' stigma and experience of care in general practice between current and ex-smokers living with COPD, other chronic illnesses, or those with no chronic conditions.

Methods: Participants completed an online survey, advertised through social media, about their experience of care from general practitioners (GPs) in the past 12 months. Respondents self-reported doctor-diagnosed chronic illnesses.

GP knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and practices surrounding the prescription of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation: a protocol for a mixed-method systematic review.

Background: Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are being marketed to people who smoke (PWS) as a smoking cessation aid. GPs have an important role in providing patients with support to encourage them to quit smoking. The emergence and marketing of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation alternative poses challenges to GPs in advising and supporting PWS to quit.

Two steps forward, one step back: the lead up to tobacco plain packaging policy in Turkey.

The Turkish government first announced its intention to proceed with tobacco plain packaging legislation in 2011; however, it was 7 years before the legislation passed in December 2018. This study (conducted in 2018 before the legislation was passed) explored the policy context in Turkey between the first announcement that plain packaging legislation would be introduced and the passage of the legislation in 2018, and identified barriers and facilitators influencing its introduction. Publicly available documents relevant to plain packaging in Turkey were analysed.
