Trauma-Informed Professional Development: Definitions and Exemplars.

Nurses are frequently exposed to trauma both inside and outside of the hospital setting. This trauma exposure may lead to symptoms that can be harmful to the nurse and make it more difficult for them to provide quality care to patients. Trauma-informed professional development is a strategy that can help nursing professional development practitioners create an environment where recovery after trauma is possible.

In the nursing professional development (NPD) specialty, the NPD practice model visually represents the NPD scope of practice and reflects a growing, vibrant specialty. It delineates the who, what, when, why, where, and how of the specialty practice and is approved by the American Nurses Association.
