Visual Performance Correlation with Corneal Aberrometric Profile and Pupil Size After Implantation of a Trifocal Hydrophobic IOL.

Purpose: To evaluate clinical outcomes obtained after cataract surgery involving the implantation of a trifocal hydrophobic intraocular lens (IOL) and to determine if pupil size and the corneal aberrometric profile correlate to visual acuity at different distances.

Methods: 49 patients (98 eyes) underwent bilateral cataract surgery with the placement of FineVision HP IOLs for presbyopia and were assessed at 1- and 3- to 6-months post-surgery. Postoperatively, refraction, monocular and binocular uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA and CDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) and the binocular defocus curve were measured.

An unusual cause of exertional dyspnea in a 55 years old man.

A 55-year-old former professional athlete reported out of proportion dyspnea on exertion. After a detailed cardiac investigation, a cardiopulmonary exercise test on an ergocycle demonstrated an abnormal and non-physiological ventilatory response characterized by a sharp rise in ventilation followed by a decrease while exercise workload was progressively increasing. This was accompanied by noisy breathing.

Eucapnic voluntary hyperpnoea and exercise-induced vocal cord dysfunction.

Introduction: Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is a common condition in endurance athletes. Exercise-induced vocal cord dysfunction (EIVCD) is a frequent confounder of EIB. The diagnosis of EIVCD may be challenging and can be missed as the problem is often intermittent and may only occur during intense exercise.
