The inappropriate use of electronic devices can affect the psychological and physical health of children and adolescents. Therefore, it is essential to accompany them and promote media literacy to ensure a healthy and responsible use of technology. On occasions that depend on a multifactorial complex, the inappropriate use of networks can trigger problematic consumption and seriously affect the lives of young people.

Purpose: To report the incidence of opacification in a consecutive series of 10 eyes that underwent scleral fixated Akreos AO60 placement with concurrent or subsequent contact with gas or silicone oil.

Methods: Consecutive case series.

Results: Three cases of IOL opacification were noted.

Background And Objective: The purpose of this article is to determine if outcomes in patients presenting with retinal tears with bridging vessels (BVs) differ from those without BVs.

Patients And Methods: A case control study of all patients presenting with retinal tears during a 3-year period was completed. Comparisons were made between patients with and without BVs.

Purpose: To determine the efficacy of the 360-degree endolaser (360EL) versus focal laser during primary vitrectomy (PPV) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair.

Methods: A single-site retrospective chart review was performed on 241 patients who underwent PPV for primary RRD. Patients were assigned to two groups, PPV with 360EL (n = 183) and PPV without 360EL (n = 59).

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who developed pneumatosis intestinalis (PI).

Methods: This case series was conducted in intensive care units at two large tertiary care centers within the Northwell Health System, located in New York State. Patients were included if they were identified as having confirmed COVID-19 as well as pneumatosis intestinalis from March 16, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

Prcis: Ahmed valve success for glaucoma following congenital cataract surgery lasts at least 5 years in most eyes, and >10 years in some cases. The procedure is a valuable option for these patients.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to report on the results of Ahmed valve implantation in children with glaucoma following congenital cataract surgery.

The use of electronic devices with screens and the early introduction in small-age children present a challenge that must be recognized by the pediatrician, who must contribute to avoid the excess in their use. We have detected a manifest discrepancy between the ideal recommendations and the actual use of screens in young children. Correct counseling within a family context, with stronger evidence on the long-term impacts of the use of digital technology, will allow pediatricians to adequately provide support to families.

"Childhood glaucoma" is a heterogenic group of diseases, characterized by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with optic-disc damage and other ocular comorbidities. Diagnosis requires two or more of the following: elevated IOP, optic nerve damage, enlarged cornea or Descemet's membrane ruptures, enlarged eye, high myopia and visual field defects. Childhood glaucoma is classified as primary if it occurs as an isolated ocular disease, and secondary, when the disease occurs along with other ocular anomalies or systemic diseases such as Neurofibromatosis and Sturge-Weber, or with acquired conditions such as uveitis complications, ocular trauma, cataract surgery, as well as from systemic and ocular steroid use.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the 3-year outcome of Ex-PRESS miniature glaucoma shunt versus Ahmed glaucoma valve in pseudophakic patients.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients with a history of clear corneal phacoemulsification alone, or failed trabeculectomy following phacoemulsification, who subsequently underwent Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation or Ex-PRESS shunt surgery. The main outcome measure, surgical success, was defined as an intraocular pressure between 5 and 21 mm Hg and a 20% intraocular pressure reduction from baseline (with/without glaucoma medications) without glaucoma reoperation.

A 61-year-old Caribbean man presented to the ED with dyspnea that had progressed over the previous week with associated cough and high fevers. Four days prior to admission, his primary care physician noted oral thrush and obtained a chest radiograph that revealed a right middle lobe infiltrate. He was prescribed levofloxacin and clotrimazole.

Dengue fever can cause ocular complications that may not be easily identified during a regular eye examination. A high degree of suspicion and multimodal imaging will help characterize the lesions during acute stages of the infection.

Purpose: To compare visual outcomes among eyes that underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in combination with either anterior chamber intraocular lens implantation (ACIOL) or scleral suturing of posterior chamber lens (PCIOL).

Design: Retrospective comparative case series.

Methods: All eyes presented with aphakia or luxated or subluxated posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) following complicated cataract surgery, trauma, or spontaneous dislocation.

Purpose: To examine the visual outcomes of early intervention in the setting of fundus-obscuring vitreous hemorrhage (VH) presumed to be due to posterior vitreous detachment.

Design: Retrospective comparative case series.

Methods: All eyes that presented with a fundus-obscuring VH, defined as vision of 20/400 or worse and requiring a B-scan at presentation from 2003 to 2013, were evaluated.

Purpose: To evaluate whether patients with macular pucker (epiretinal membrane [ERM]) and good preoperative visual acuity (20/50 or better) benefit from small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy with membrane peeling.

Methods: Retrospective chart review of eyes undergoing small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy for ERM. Inclusion criterion was impaired visual acuity (20/50 or better) due to ERM.

A 70-year-old woman presented with signs of acute-onset endophthalmitis within 24 hours of surgery, with retinal hemorrhages and vascular changes in the absence of pain or significant inflammation. She had undergone uncomplicated 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane with presenting visual acuity of 20/40- and significant distortion. Vitreous culture revealed Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Objective: To compare baseline characteristics, treatment frequency, visual acuity (VA), and morphologic outcomes of eyes with >50% of the lesion composed of blood (B50 group) versus all other eyes (Other group) enrolled in the Comparison of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Treatments Trials (CATT).

Design: Prospective cohort study within a multicenter randomized clinical trial.

Participants: CATT patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Food behavior disorderes (high fat diet) and systematic strong drinks use could be the most important causes of excess intake of intestinal endotoxin (ET) in circulation (endotoxin aggression development) and induction of inflammation. In this work we investigated antiendotoxin immunity activity, ET level and some biochemical parameters in two group of patients, which were treated with orlistat or medical starvation. We suggest that lipid component of food takes a part in mechanism of ET delivery in bloodstream and its recycling in hydrophobic form.

Background: Patients with age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) begin with non-neovascular (NNV) phenotypes usually associated with good vision. Approximately 20% of NNV-ARMD patients will convert to vision debilitating neovascular (NV) ARMD, but precise timing of this event is unknown. Developing a clinical test predicting impending conversion to NV-ARMD is necessary to prevent vision loss.
