[The peculiar features of the clinical course of Meniere's disease associated with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo].

Aim: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of occurrence and clinical features of vertigo spells in the patients presenting with Ménière's disease (MD) associated with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Methods: A total of 104 patients with MD were available for the observation. All of them underwent the comprehensive examination that included the audiological study and vestibular tests, such as the Dix-Hallpike test and the roll-test for BPPV diagnostics.

[The peripheral vestibular disorders encountered in the routine out-patient practical work].

The objective of the present study was to elucidate the frequency of causes underlying the development of dizziness and vertigo in the patients seeking advice and care at an outpatient healthcare facility. A total of 590 patients with complaints of dizziness and vertigo were examined. It was found out that the peripheral disorders of the vestibular analyzer were the most frequent causes of dizziness and vertigo in the majority of the examined patients.

[The comprehensive approach to ensure the quality of forensic medical examination of a cadaver].

The objective of the present work was to estimate the effectiveness of the comprehensive monitoring system designed to enhance the quality of forensic medical expertise for determining the cause of death in the hanging cases. It was shown that the practical application of the algorithmization and automated quality control system improves the effectiveness of forensic medical examination of the cadavers in the hanging cases. The system performs the control, directing, and teaching functions.

[Experience of medical assistance in the hosital of Plesetsk Cosmodrome under conditions of large patient load after explosion of a launch vehicle].

Military hospital of Plesetsk Cosmodrome was founded on 20 December 1958. The aims of the hospital were always connected with medical support of the cosmodrome, including emergency situations. On 18 March 1980 a Vostok-2M rocket exploded on its launch pad during a fuelling operation.

[The role of a signal lymph node in surgical treatment of gastric cancer].

A method of intraoperative mapping of the lymph outflow tracts was used in 32 patients for a detection of the signal lymph node in gastric cancer using a lymphotropic stain BLUE PATENT V. The test-sensitivity was 78%. The intraoperative mapping of the lymph outflow tracts allows the volume and zone dissection in operations for gastric cancer to be exactly determined.

[Assessment of functioning of the internal ear in patients with labyrinthine hydrops and in normal subjects by means of phase audiometry].

A method for the diagnosis of labyrinthine hydrops is proposed that takes advantage of specific physiological features of internal ear functioning. Namely, the basal membrane of the inner ear exposed to a low-frequency tone undergoes synchronous sinusoidal oscillations along its entire length; simultaneously, sensitivity of the organ of Corti changes periodically. Under normal conditions, perception of 1,000 Hz tonal signals at the background of a low-frequency masker varied substantially depending on the phase during which the signal came.

[Main prognostic factors in locally spread rectal cancer].

Statistical analysis of 333 case histories has established main prognostic factors and their combinations determining general and recurrence-free survival of patients with locally spread rectal cancer. The one-factor analysis considered gender, age, prevalence degree, histological type of the tumor, operation volume, the presence of postoperative complications, non-adjuvant and adjuvant radiation therapy, chemotherapy, chemo-radiation therapy. Total survival in men was 51.

[Intraoperative mapping of lymph outflow tracts in colorectal carcinoma].

Based on an analysis of 60 cases the authors have shown that identification and target investigation of signal lymph nodes using intraoperative staining with special dyes allows correct assessment of the stage of malignant disease. The method also allows treatment of the patient with an adequate, corresponding to up-to-date standards scheme of combined and complex treatment, gives possibilities of exact intraoperative diagnosis of lymphogenic metastasis and, as a result, allows extended operative intervention up to radical volumes.

[Intraoperative staging of colorectal tumors].

The effectiveness of intraoperative staging of tumor by sentinel node staining with lymphotropic dyes was evaluated in 60 patients with colorectal tumors (colon carcinoma -39, rectal cancer- 21). High sensitivity (84.6% and 87.

[Immunodiagnosis of chronic tonsillitis].

Current methods of allergo- and immunodiagnosis of chronic tonsillitis are reviewed. Among them, attempts to use serological tests and reactions of cell type for defining course and form of chronic tonsillitis. Single tests, especially those basing on the suggested etiological factors, are thought uneffective.

[Morphological characteristics of central and peripheral organs of rat immune system in time course of adaptation to external low-dose gamma irradiation].

The morphohistochemical changes in immune system lymphoid organs and skin of rats, exposed to single and fractionated gamma-radiation (0.35 Gy) were studied during 1 month. It has been revealed that single irradiation didn't significantly influence, while the fractionated irradiation in equal dose resulted in lymphoid cells elimination from thymus and spleen and changes in skin and bone marrow cells subsets, inducing the increase of lymphoid cells number and activation of tissue basophils and macrophages reaction.

[Current principles and methods of radical therapy for locally extensive esophageal and gastroesophageal cancer].

The results of radical surgical and combined treatment of 124 cases of esophageal and cardioesphageal tumors are presented. Extensive local disease (stage III, T2-4N0-2M0) was diagnosed in 113 patients (91.1%).

[Current approaches to radical surgical and combined treatment of rectal cancer].

The article gives an analysis of the 30 years experiences with treatment of more than 3200 patients with rectum cancer at a specialized oncological department. Postoperative lethality was 7.3%.

[Rational support of combined operations in locally disseminated stomach cancer].

An analysis of results of 315 combined operations for gastric cancer with the T3 and T4 degrees of invasion has shown that the rational multicomponent surgical, anesthesiological and therapeutic maintenance of surgical interventions for gastric cancer is the main factor responsible for the outcome of the treatment. The proposed scheme of the multicomponent rational maintenance of the combined surgical interventions allowed to reduce frequency of cardiopulmonary complications to 18.2%, pyoseptic complications to 7% and postoperative lethality to 13.

[Factors determining treatment effectiveness in localized stomach cancer].

The report deals with the data on the results of radical combination surgery in 315 patients with stomach tumors T3 and T4. Extensive and combination surgery coupled with a well-balanced surgical, anasthesiological and medicinal therapy proved the only effective method of managing localized cancer of the stomach.

The report deals with the 30-year experience gained by the Department in the treatment of nearly 5,500 cases of tumors of large bowel. Radical surgery for colonic tumor was followed by lethality in 3.0 and 5-year survival-80.

[The distribution of tick-borne encephalitis virus-infected ticks along a linear census route].

An individual study of Ixodes persulcatus Schulze, 1930, established that the distribution of infected ticks differs from the normal distribution and it is most close to the Poisson distribution. There is a tendency to deviation from the uniform-random distribution associated with higher infected tick contact rates in some parts of the route.
