Introduction: While preventive healthcare guidelines recommend that pregnant women or those planning pregnancy engage in preventive care and maintain healthy lifestyles, it is unknown whether women engage in these activities before conception. We examined the association between maternal status and participation in preventive health checks and healthy lifestyle practices.

Methods: We included 4447 women from 1989 to 95 cohort of Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health, categorised into three groups: pregnant women, women in preconception period, and women who were neither pregnant nor trying to become pregnant between surveys one to six.

Understanding land use/land cover (LULC) changes is crucial for informing policymakers and planners on the dynamics affecting environmental and resource management. Most past studies highlighted the significance of LULC changes and their driving forces in various locations. However, comprehensive analyses that combine the impact of land management technologies (LMTs) on LULC changes using GIS and remote sensing tools have not been widely addressed.

We determined the dengue virus (DENV) serotypes and genotypes in archived serum samples that were collected during the 2014-2016 and 2021 dengue outbreaks in Dire Dawa City and the Somali region in Ethiopia. DENV serotype 1 (DENV-1) was predominant followed by DENV serotype 2 (DENV-2). Thirteen of the DENV-1 strains were assigned to Genotype-I, while the remaining two were found to be Genotype-III.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the growth of two plant species, Conocarpus erectus and Dodonaea viscosa, when grown in varying proportions of industrial solid waste and garden soil.
  • C. erectus demonstrated superior growth and ion uptake compared to D. viscosa, particularly at a 5% industrial waste ratio, with significant growth increases noted over four months.
  • The research identified optimal soil ratios for establishing these plants on barren lands contaminated with industrial waste, suggesting a 10:90 ratio for D. viscosa and 20:80 for C. erectus to enhance restoration efforts in industrial areas.

  • Enset (Welw.) Cheesman is a vital plant for over 20% of Ethiopia's population, providing food and livelihood, with its fermentation resulting in a little-studied starchy food.
  • A study analyzed the physicochemical and microbial changes in fermented enset from different varieties collected over 60 days, revealing significant relationships between fermentation time and various components like acidity and pH.
  • The research identified key microbial communities during fermentation, particularly dominant phyla such as Firmicutes and Proteobacteria, and suggested that specific species likely influence the fermentation process.

The aim of the experiment was to evaluate the potential of promising summer maize genotypes and optimal stage of harvesting these genotypes for ensiling in terms of dry matter (DM), starch, and crude protein (CP) yields, silage fermentation quality, nutrients profile, total digestible nutrients, metabolizable energy (ME) content, Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS) carbohydrate (CHO) subfractions composition, in vitro DM digestibility (DMD) and in situ starch degradation characteristics. Six maize genotypes were chosen for the study: DK9108 from Monsanto, P30Y87, P3939 from Pioneer, QPM-300 (quality protein maize) and W94 from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and a local cultivar, Afgoii, from the Cereal Research Institute (Persabaq, KP). A total of 72 plots (8 m × 10 m) were blocked in three replicate fields, and within each field, each genotype was sown in four replicate plots according to a randomized complete block design.
