Objectives: To investigate the structural characteristics of intestinal flora in children with sepsis and its association with inflammatory response.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted. The children with sepsis who were admitted from December 2021 to January 2023 were enrolled as the sepsis group, and the children with non-sepsis who were admitted during the same period were enrolled as the non-sepsis group.

Background: A retrospective analysis was conducted to explore the sensitivity and specificity of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and pleural effusion samples in children with invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), and the impact of detection timing on prognosis and cost.

Methods: Children with IPD admitted to Hebei Children's Hospital from 1 January 2017 to 1 March 2021 were allocated to 1 of 3 groups according to the clinical symptoms and lesions (Group 1: bacteremia; Group 2: meningitis; Group 3: pleurisy). Taking Alere BinaxNow () antigen detection and blood culture as the gold standard, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was used to establish the diagnostic value of mNGS.

Importance: Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) is a rare disease with high mortality. Plasma exchange (PLEX) has recently been reported to treat ANE of childhood (ANEC), but its efficacy is uncertain.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of PLEX on ANEC.

Objective: To study the incidence rate of non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) in critically ill children with or without sepsis and the association of NTIS with interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 97 children with sepsis (sepsis group) and 80 non-sepsis children with bacterial infection (non-sepsis group). The correlations of IL-6 and IL-10 with the thyroid function parameters triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were analyzed.

Objective: To study the effect of the application timing of vasoactive agents on the prognosis of children in the third stage of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of children in the third stage of HFMD between April 2012 and September 2016. According to the application time of vasoactive agents (milrinone combined with phentolamine) after admission, the children were divided into an early stage (within 2 hours after admission) group with 32 children, a middle stage (within 2-6 hours after admission) group with 28 children, and a late stage (more than 6 hours after admission) group with 26 children.

Background: Visceral leishmaniasis-related hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (VL-HLH) is a secondary hemophagocytic syndrome, which can be life-threatening, caused by leishmania and transmitted by infected sandflies. Rapid and accurate identification of leishmania is crucial for clinical strategies.

Case Report: Here, we report an infantile infection in a non-epidemic area of China.

Objective: We isolated and screened endophytic and rhizosphere bacteria with 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase from halophyte Limonium sinense (Girard) Kuntze collected from Jiangsu coastal area and investigated their diversity and plant growth promoting potential.

Methods: Strains were obtained from inner tissues and rhizosphere soils using pure culture cultivation method and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Their potential plant growth promoting index of nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, indoleacetic acid (IAA) production and NaCl tolerance ability were evaluated.

Objective: To investigate the effect of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) on inflammatory mediators in children with severe hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), and to investigate its clinical efficacy.

Methods: A total of 36 children with stage IV HFMD were enrolled and randomly divided into conventional treatment group and CVVH group (n=18 each). The children in the CVVH group were given CVVH for 48 hours in addition to the conventional treatment.

Objective: To investigate the value of timing of antibiotics in pediatric septic shock.

Methods: Eighty children with septic shock treated with bundle treatment in Department of Critical Care Medicine were retrospectively analyzed. Eighty children with septic shock were divided into observation group (n=40, anti-infection therapy within 1 hour after admission) and control group (n=40, anti-infection therapy 1-6 hours after admission).
