Mammalian meiosis is a highly specialized cell division process, resulting in the production of genetically unique haploid cells. However, the molecular mechanisms governing meiosis remain largely unknown, primarily due to the difficulty in isolating pure sub-populations of spermatocytes. Definitive molecular, biochemical, and functional investigations of the meiosis process require the isolation of these individual homogeneous sub-populations of spermatocytes.

Baijiu is an ancient, distilled spirit with a complicated brewing process, unique taste, and rich trace components. These trace components play a decisive role in the aroma, taste, and especially the quality of baijiu. In this paper, the redox reaction between the Fenton reagent and four reducing agents, including o-phenylenediamine (OPD), p-phenylenediamine (PPD), 4-aminophenol (PAP), and 2-aminophenol (OAP), was adopted to construct a four-channel visual sensor array for the rapid detection of nine kinds of common organic acids in baijiu and the identification of baijiu and its adulteration.

Baijiu authenticity has been a frequent problem driven by economic interests in recent years, so it is important to discriminate against baijiu with different origins. Herein, we proposed a simple and efficient esters-targeted colorimetric sensor array mediated by hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Esters undergo a nucleophilic addition reaction with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to form hydroxamic acid, which rapidly forms a purplish red ferric hydroxamate under FeCl·6HO.

Given the severe problem of Baijiu authenticity, it is essential to discriminate Baijiu from different origins quickly and effectively. As organic acids (OAs) are the most dominant taste-imparting substances in Baijiu, we proposed a simple, fast, and effective OAs-targeted colorimetric sensor array based on the colorimetric reaction of 4-aminophenol (AP)/4-amino-3-chlorophenol (ACP) under oxidation of Cu(NO) for the rapid discrimination of origins of Baijiu with three main aroma types. Hydrogen ions ionized from OAs induced the protonation of the amino group, which blocked the colorimetric reaction, and the different levels of OAs in Baijiu enabled the array to discriminate different origins of Baijiu.

Soft grippers with good passive compliance can effectively adapt to the shape of a target object and have better safe grasping performance than rigid grippers. However, for soft or fragile objects, passive compliance is insufficient to prevent grippers from crushing the target. Thus, to complete nondestructive grasping tasks, precision force sensing and control are immensely important for soft grippers.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding electric dipole switching in multiferroic materials, particularly in LiNbO-type polar magnets, requires examining atomic-scale structural changes, which remains poorly defined in high-pressure synthesized samples.
  • The discovery of Zn-ion splitting in the ZnFeNbO compound, validated through various diffraction techniques, highlights the presence of a paraelectric-like phase within its lattice and prompts a reevaluation of A-site atomic splitting in other similar compounds.
  • The study concludes that A-site splitting is common in LiNbO-type structures with mixed B-site or anionic configurations, with the extent of displacement being influenced by magnetic interactions and bonding dynamics between cations.

Rational design of technologically important exotic perovskites is hampered by the insufficient geometrical descriptors and costly and extremely high-pressure synthesis, while the big-data driven compositional identification and precise prediction entangles full understanding of the possible polymorphs and complicated multidimensional calculations of the chemical and thermodynamic parameter space. Here we present a rapid systematic data-mining-driven approach to design exotic perovskites in a high-throughput and discovery speed of the 'O family as exemplified in TeO. The magnetoelectric polar magnet CoTeO, which is theoretically recognized and experimentally realized at 5 GPa from the six possible polymorphs, undergoes two magnetic transitions at 24 and 58 K and exhibits helical spin structure accompanied by magnetoelastic and magnetoelectric coupling.

The novel two-dimensional honeycomb layered Cu3LiRu2O6 exhibits Pauli-like paramagnetic and Mott variable range hopping semiconduction behaviors, which contradict the large specific-heat Sommerfeld coefficient for metals, and indicate a possible spin-excitation induced nonmetallic metal. This nonmetallic feature can be significantly suppressed by pressure toward producing a bad-metal state, as reflected by the temperature-dependent resistivity response up to 35 GPa.
