Social determinants of health, such as food insecurity, can significantly impact patient welfare, potentially increasing the prevalence of chronic illnesses while hindering their management, as shown in previous data collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. This study aimed to investigate the association between food insecurity and other social determinants of health with hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and hypertension. To that end, self-reported data on food security from clinical encounters and biological data from medical records were collected.

To date, no practical approach for reducing variability has been validated. We defined specific tacrolimus blood level patterns correlated with variability and evaluated their independent association with reduced graft survival.

Adolescent shoulder reconstruction techniques in brachial plexus birth injury.

Background: Brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) is common and while most recover, 8%-36% of patients experience permanent impairment. Typically, adolescents with untreated BPBI lack active and passive external rotation (ER) and overhead shoulder function. Limited shoulder function is due to 1) nonoperative BPBI, 2) untreated BPBI, or 3) unrecognized glenohumeral joint dysplasia.

Background And Objectives: Despite the high morbidity associated with glenohumeral dysplasia (GHD) in children with brachial plexus birth injuries, the progression of this condition often remains unnoticed, even after correcting for the underlying brachial plexus birth injuries. GHD, driven by a multifactorial process involving disruptions in both direct and indirect neural regulation of bony and muscular structures, can lead to intermittent or permanent shoulder mobility imbalances, significantly impacting the quality of life of those affected. Recent research efforts are increasingly directed toward identifying the root causes, managing the deformity, and determining effective treatment options for correcting GHD.

Reconstruction for Congenital Absence of the Fifth Metacarpal.

We report a case of an isolated congenital absence of the right fifth metacarpal with ring and little finger syndactyly in a 6-year-old girl without other ipsilateral limb anomalies or phenotypic disorders. The patient underwent amputation of the hypoplastic right little finger with reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament of the ring finger metacarpophalangeal joint as well as hypothenar muscle transfer. She has returned to normal childhood activities without limitation at 3 months after surgery.

In this study, we aimed to estimate the BNT162b2 booster effectiveness against the spread of coronavirus variants in a hemodialysis population. We compared humoral and cell-mediated immunity in 100 dialysis patients and 66 age-matched volunteers, before and 2-3 weeks following the first booster vaccine dose.

This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients hospitalized with acute pulmonary embolism by investigating its association with mortality in a large-scale population diagnosed and hospitalized with acute PE. We retrieved all consecutive patients hospitalized in an internal medicine department or an intensive care unit in a tertiary medical center from December 2007 to April 2021 with a discharge diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.

We aimed to investigate the prevalence of decreased folate levels in patients hospitalized with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and evaluate their outcome and the prognostic signifi-cance associated with its different levels. In this retrospective cohort study, data were obtained from the electronic medical records at the Sheba Medical Center. Folic acid levels were available in 333 out of 1020 consecutive patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection hospitalized from January 2020 to November 2020.

Purpose: There is little information in the literature regarding flexible intramedullary nails (FIN) for treating femur fractures in children with neuromuscular disorders. The purpose of this study is to investigate the outcomes of FIN for femoral shaft fractures in non-ambulatory children with neuromuscular disorders.
