Crystal growth of 2-(3,4,5-triphen-ylphen-yl)acetic acid () from aceto-nitrile yields a monosolvate, CHO·CHCN, of the space group 1. In the crystal, the title mol-ecule adopts a conformation in which the three phenyl rings are arranged in a paddlewheel-like fashion around the central arene ring and the carboxyl residue is oriented nearly perpendicular to the plane of this benzene ring. Inversion-symmetric dimers of O-H⋯O-bonded mol-ecules of represent the basic supra-molecular entities of the crystal structure.

Augmenting Verb-Naming Therapy With Neuromodulation Decelerates Language Loss in Primary Progressive Aphasia.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate Verb Network Strengthening Treatment (VNeST) paired with the transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) of the left inferior frontal gyrus, which was compared to VNeST paired with a sham stimulation in primary progressive aphasia (PPA).

Method: A double-blind, within-subject, sham-controlled crossover design was used. Eight participants with PPA were enrolled.

In this complex, [In(CHNO)Cl(HO)], each indium ion is sixfold coordinated by two chloride ions, one water mol-ecule and two 8-quinolino-late ions. The crystal of the title complex is composed of two-dimensional supra-molecular aggregates, resulting from the linkage of the O-H⋯O=C and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds as well as bifurcated C-H⋯Cl contacts.

Improving the Lives of People with Sickle Cell Disease: Community Organizations and Epidemiologists Working Together.

Background: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Sickle Cell Data Collection (SCDC) program comprises multidisciplinary teams, which include community-based organizations. Partnering with community-based organizations (CBOs) is a novel approach to ensure that SCDC data are actionable.

Embedding Ethics in the Implementation of a Vital Sign Monitoring Technology.

The implementation of wireless continuous vital sign monitoring (CVSM) technologies changes daily care practices of healthcare professionals, which gives rise to unknown new roles and responsibilities. In this paper we present a study on how we combine the disciplines of medical informatics and ethics in the implementation of the Philips Healthdot, a smart patch for remote CVSM. The aim of this study is to investigate experiences and perspectives on the support levels and roles and responsibilities associated with the integration of smart patches, by conducting interviews with nurses.

Presenting a Framework to Professionalize Health Supply Chain Management.

Introduction: Many countries have an insufficient supply of adequately skilled supply chain workers to manage health commodities, and no global standards in education or experience exist for the supply chain management (SCM) workforce managing health products. We present a professionalization framework for the health SCM workforce that provides a systematic process that countries can use to standardize and elevate the health SCM profession.

Methods: In 2019, semistructured interviews were conducted with individuals from 10 leading organizations supporting in-country public health supply chains to explore approaches for an SCM professionalization framework.

Picturing Better Materials: Normative Data on a Novel Illustration Set for Scientific and Clinical Use.

Purpose: Picture stimuli are essential materials for language research and clinical practice. Here, we generated a modern, full-color set of 310 illustrations representing a carefully designed, culturally sensitive list of imageable nouns. We normed the images in a diverse sample of healthy adults, so the images can be used in various populations, including older adults.

Protein denaturation and aggregation resulting from the effects of interfacial stress, often enhanced by flow and shear stress, pose significant challenges in the production of therapeutic proteins and monoclonal antibodies. The influence of flow on protein stability is closely intertwined with interfacial effects. In this study, we have developed a microfluidic device capable of exposing low volume (< 320 µL) protein solutions to highly uniform shear.

Projected augmented reality in DIEP flap breast reconstruction: Projecting perforators on the skin using dynamic infrared thermography.

Background: Dynamic infrared thermography (DIRT) is a quick and non-invasive technique for perforator mapping in free flaps that provides real-time information. After a cold challenge, areas best supplied with blood become visible hotspots on color-coded maps, indicating perforators. This study presents a proof of principle for a new and innovative feature of DIRT, where projected augmented reality is used to directly display thermal images on the patient's abdomen prior to the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction.

Extended wakefulness alters the relationship between EEG oscillations and performance in a sustained attention task.

During drowsiness, maintaining consistent attention becomes difficult, leading to behavioural lapses. Bursts of oscillations in the electroencephalogram (EEG) might predict such lapses, given that alpha bursts increase during inattention and theta bursts increase with time spent awake. Paradoxically, however, alpha bursts decrease with time awake and theta bursts increase during focussed attention and cognitive tasks.

The effects of prehospital TXA on mortality and neurologic outcomes in patients with traumatic intracranial hemorrhage: A subgroup analysis from the prehospital TXA for TBI trial.

Background: In the prehospital tranexamic acid (TXA) for traumatic brain injury (TBI) trial, TXA administered within 2 hours of injury in the out-of-hospital setting did not reduce mortality in all patients with moderate/severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). We examined the association between TXA dosing arms, neurologic outcome, and mortality in patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) on computed tomography (CT).

Elevated Electron Temperature Coincident with Observed Fusion Reactions in a Sheared-Flow-Stabilized Z Pinch.

The sheared-flow-stabilized Z pinch concept has been studied extensively and is able to produce fusion-relevant plasma parameters along with neutron production over several microseconds. We present here elevated electron temperature results spatially and temporally coincident with the plasma neutron source. An optical Thomson scattering apparatus designed for the FuZE device measures temperatures in the range of 1-3 keV on the axis of the device, 20 cm downstream of the nose cone.

Investigating silent pauses in connected speech: integrating linguistic, neuropsychological, and neuroanatomical perspectives across narrative tasks in post-stroke aphasia.

Introduction: Silent pauses are regarded as integral components of the temporal organization of speech. However, it has also been hypothesized that they serve as markers for internal cognitive processes, including word access, monitoring, planning, and memory functions. Although existing evidence across various pathological populations underscores the importance of investigating silent pauses' characteristics, particularly in terms of frequency and duration, there is a scarcity of data within the domain of post-stroke aphasia.

A feasibility study on the use of audio-based ecological momentary assessment with persons with aphasia.

We describe a smartphone/smartwatch system to evaluate anomia in individuals with aphasia by using audio-recording-based ecological momentary assessments. The system delivers object-naming assessments to a participant's smartwatch, whereby a prompt signals the availability of images of these objects on the watch screen. Participants attempt to speak the names of the images that appear on the watch display out loud and into the watch as they go about their lives.

Combination of Hydrogen and Halogen Bonds in the Crystal Structures of 5-Halogeno-1-isatin-3-oximes: Involvement of the Oxime Functionality in Halogen Bonding.

Various functional groups have been considered as acceptors for halogen bonds, but the oxime functionality has received very little attention in this context. In this study, we focus on the analysis of the hydrogen and halogen bond preferences observed in the crystal structures of 5-halogeno-1-isatin-3-oximes. These molecules can be involved in various non-covalent interactions, and the competition between these interactions has a decisive influence on their self-organization.
