Polysaccharide-based films have received increasing attention as promising candidates for petrochemical plastics. However, they are highly brittle, poorly hydrophobic and without antibacterial activity, while current films used to address these issues often struggle to manage the balance between these properties. To achieve a balance of several performance indices of the films, functionalized dialdehyde cellulose nanocrystals (DCNCs) were prepared to activate pectin-based films.

Background: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) has become an increasingly common cause of death among people living with HIV (PLHIV) receiving successful antiretroviral therapy (ART). In Chongqing, approximately half of the PLHIV were middle-aged or elderly, and their diets were mainly high in salt, spices and oil; however, there is still a lack of relevant research on the risk factors and whether the disease burden of ASCVD is greater in these areas. This study was to investigate the risk of ASCVD in middle-aged and elderly PLHIV receiving ART and analyze the factors influencing high risk.

Background: Dixon-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) intramuscular proton density fat fraction (PDFF) is a potentially useful imaging biomarker of muscle quality. However, multi-vendor, multi-site reproducibility of intramuscular PDFF quantification, required for large clinical studies, can be strongly dependent on acquisition and processing. The purpose of this study was (I) to develop a 6-point Dixon MRI-based acquisition and processing technique for reproducible multi-vendor, multi-site quantification of thigh intramuscular PDFF; and (II) to evaluate the ability of the technique to detect differences in thigh muscle status between operated .

Although 3VmrMLM-MEJA and several indirect indicators have been employed to identify QTN-by-environment interactions (QEIs) in genome-wide association studies (GWAS), there is no convenient, flexible, and accurate method to comprehensively identify QEIs. To address this issue, 3VmrMLM-random was first extended to 3VmrMLM-fixed. Next, the two single-environment QTN detection methods were integrated with trait differences and regression parameters to indirectly detect QEIs.

The present study aimed to assess bone strength and microstructure in patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP), nonsurgical HP (NS-HP), and healthy controls. A total of 54 PHP1 patients (14 PHP1a, 40 PHP1b), 54 age-/sex- matched NS-HP patients and 27 age-/sex-matched controls were enrolled. Clinical characteristics, biochemical indices and HR-pQCT indices were respectively collected.

Background: Early diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection is of great significance for the clinical management of tuberculosis (TB). We first explored the efficacy of single-molecule nanopore DNA sequencing in the early diagnosis of suspected TB patients and analyzed the advantages in differentiating and diagnosing MTB and non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM).

Methods: In this cohort study, we reviewed the clinical data of suspected TB patients admitted from December 1, 2021, through April 15, 2022.

RTX was initially used for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment and has been used in the clinical treatment of various autoimmune diseases as well as in antirejection and immune induction therapy for kidney transplant recipients. Following RTX treatment, the time for B cell regeneration varies among patients, but there is no unified recommendation for the frequency of B cell monitoring. This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of periodic monitoring of peripheral blood B lymphocytes in individualized immunotherapy following rituximab (RTX) treatment in patients with different diseases.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), historically termed 'lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma' due to its rich lymphocyte infiltration, benefit from PD-1 blockade treatment. However, a comprehensive understanding of its tumor microenvironment (TME) remains elusive, hindering the identification of effective biomarkers for immunotherapy. We leveraged multimodal profiling data, including gene expression, immunohistochemistry, and multiplex immunohistochemistry, from three independent cohorts of NPC patients with a total of 327 patients to dissect the TME in NPC.

Background: This study explores the value of interlobar fissure semilunar sign(IFSS) based on multifactor joint analysis in predicting the invasiveness of ground glass nodules(GGNs) with interlobar fissure attachment in the lungs.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of clinical data and CT images of 203 GGNs attached to the interlobar fissures confirmed by surgery and pathology. According to pathological results, those GGNs were divided into three groups: glandular precursor lesion (atypical adenomatous hyperplasia/adenocarcinoma in situ), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to see how effective specific blood and metabolic indices are in predicting mortality among hospitalized Alzheimer’s patients aged 60 and older, focusing on indices like neutrophils/lymphocytes and creatinine/cystatin C ratios.
  • - Data was collected from 329 hospitalized Alzheimer’s patients over six years, where researchers found that the Cr/CysC*100 ratio effectively predicted mortality, with sarcopenic patients showing a significantly higher death rate than non-sarcopenic ones (24.39% vs. 13.77%).
  • - Overall, the study concluded that while the Cr/CysC*100 ratio is a reliable mortality predictor in this demographic, the other indices did not show significant differences, suggesting further

Background: Infections occurring postoperatively in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) following cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery pose a considerable challenge, affecting the duration of hospitalization, financial costs, and patient outcomes. Studies investigating the association between systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and early infections after CHD surgery are very rare. This study seeks to delineate the link between SII and the occurrence of early nosocomial infections in pediatric patients undergoing CPB surgery for CHD.

Article Synopsis
  • - RuBisCO is crucial for photosynthesis as it converts inorganic carbon to organic carbon, but its inefficiency presents a challenge; enhancing its performance is vital for improving plant photosynthesis.
  • - Researchers used CRISPR-Cas9 to edit five rbcS genes in rice, finding that mutations in these genes led to stunted growth, delayed flowering, reduced yield, and lower photosynthetic efficiency.
  • - Despite some severe phenotypic changes in the mutants, structural analysis showed no major alterations in the RuBisCO enzyme's assembly or structure, suggesting that the mutations impact function rather than protein integrity, providing insights into RuBisCO's role in rice.

Article Synopsis
  • - Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a lung disease in preterm infants linked to inflammation and high oxygen levels, but the specifics of how these factors affect the body’s metabolites and gut bacteria are still not fully understood.
  • - In a study, pregnant rats were given injections to simulate inflammation and then exposed to different oxygen levels after giving birth, showing changes in gut bacteria and metabolites, particularly increases in certain bacteria and 78 altered metabolites related to important metabolic pathways.
  • - The results suggest that both antenatal inflammation and prolonged exposure to oxygen may significantly influence gut microbiota and metabolite profiles, pointing to their potential roles in the development of BPD.

This study employed lipidomics to reveal the dynamic evolution of lipid characteristics and identify oxidation markers from oxylipins in walnuts during accelerated storage. Glycerophospholipid (GP) content continuously declined in the initial and severe deterioration stages.
