[Promoting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Healthcare: An Example of the COVID-19 Pandemic].

Healthcare systems must embody equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and, in the event of unfairness, appropriate policies / countermeasures should be enacted. The healthcare system response to the COVID-19 pandemic not only highlighted how socioeconomic disparities affect mortality risk but also posed significant challenges to the successful practice of EDI in healthcare. In light of this, this article was written to provide an overview of EDI, analyze the international efforts to promote it, and suggest strategies for promoting EDI in infectious disease healthcare using COVID-19 as an example.

Mid-term outcomes of total neointima implantation in surgical repair of acute type A aortic dissection.

However, there is no report on the mid-term outcomes with a control group of the surgical procedure. Complete Transthoracic Echocardiography for the Assessment and Guidance of Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Closure in Adults without Balloon Sizing: An Observed Study with a 10-Year Follow-Up.

Objectives: This study aims to determine if complete transthoracic echocardiography (TTE)-guided percutaneous atrial septal defect (ASD) closure without balloon sizing could be safe and efficacious in adult patients.

Methods: A total of 551 patients with ASDs were enrolled in this study, of which 438 patients underwent percutaneous ASD closure. Patients who received TTE-guided percutaneous ASD closure were classified into group T, and those who underwent a procedure that was guided by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) were classified into group E.

Robust Generation of Ready-to-Use Cryopreserved Motor Neurons from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells for Disease Modeling.

Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived motor neurons (MNs) act as models for motor neuron diseases (MNDs), such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or spinal muscular atrophy. However, the MN differentiation efficiency and viability following cryopreservation require further development for application in large-scale studies and drug screening. Here, we developed a robust protocol to convert hPSCs into MN cryopreservation stocks (hPSCs were converted into >92% motor neural progenitors and >91% MNs).

Effect of horticultural activities on quality of life, perceived stress, and working memory of community-dwelling older adults.

This study sampled 86 community-dwelling older adults to investigate the effect of horticultural activities on their quality of life, perceived stress, and working memory. The Effectiveness of a Thanks, Sorry, Love, and Farewell Board Game in Older People in Taiwan: A Quasi-Experimental Study.

The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the four themes of life ("thanks, sorry, love, and farewell") board game to enhance interpersonal communication, interpersonal relationships, and self-efficacy; and decrease loneliness. The participants were a convenience sample of 91 older people recruited from two community activity centers in Taiwan. Using a quasi-experimental method, participants from one of the community activity centers were enrolled as the experimental group, and participants from the other center were enrolled as the control group.
