Atherosclerosis (AS) is an important causative agent of cardiovascular diseases, and the occurrence and development of AS is accompanied by oxidative stress, so antioxidant therapy has become one of the strategies for the treatment of AS. This study aimed to design and construct an apolipoprotein ApoA1-modified inorganic-organic composite nanosystem for AS therapy, in which ApoA1 was modified onto carboxylated CeO/MnO by covalent bonding, resulting in an inorganic-organic nanocomplex with a structure similar to that of high-density lipoprotein. The nanocomplex could effectively deliver the antioxidant nanoparticles to the AS plaque through the specific recognition between ApoA1 and the macrophage at the AS lesion site.

Ferroptosis has received great attention as an iron-dependent programmed cell death for efficient cancer therapy. However, with the accumulation of iron in tumor cells, the antioxidant system is activated by reducing glutathione (GSH) with glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), which critically limits the ferroptosis therapeutic effect. Herein, an iron and GPX4 silencing siRNA (siGPX4) co-encapsulated ferritin nanocage (HFn@Fe/siGPX4) was developed to enhance ferroptosis by disruption of redox homeostasis and inhibition of antioxidant enzyme synergistically.

Genetically modified crops have profound impacts on cost savings and environmental friendliness conferred by new traits, such as resistance to insects and herbicides. Selectable marker genes are essential for screening transformed cells, but they are undesirable in the final product due to the risks of horizontal gene transfer and extensive safety assessment requirements. Generating marker- and backbone-free lines can enhance the public acceptance of transgenic crops.

As natural agonists of the stimulator of interferon genes (STING), cyclic dinucleotides (CDNs) have been identified as promising immunotherapies that trigger a potent immune response against tumors. However, the low stability, rapid clearance, inadequate cellular uptake, and inefficient cytosol localization heavily hinder the therapeutic efficacy of the hydrophilic and negatively charged 2', 3'-cyclic-GMP-AMP (cGAMP). How to efficiently deliver cGAMP into the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to activate STING for immune priming remains challenging.

In recent years, considerable concerns have been raised regarding environmental pollution caused by water-soluble polymers (WSPs). Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), used in the textile industry and in the manufacture of medical consumables, is one type of WSPs. After use, PVA is discharged and enters aquatic ecosystems, but most of it cannot be completely biodegraded in the environment.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine how the sex of the carrier affects embryo outcomes and pregnancies in couples participating in preimplantation genetic testing for structural rearrangements (PGT-SR).
  • - In a retrospective analysis of 412 couples, results showed that male carriers had a higher rate of genetically transferable blastocysts compared to female carriers (34.0% vs 31.7%), primarily due to different segregation patterns in the Robertsonian translocation subgroup.
  • - The findings suggest that while the sex of the carrier impacts embryo transfer rates, other pregnancy outcomes remained similar, and the differences were mainly observed in the RobT subgroup, with minor variations noted in the RecT subgroup.
