We aimed to study the effect of remdesivir therapy on renal and hepatic function in coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients with renal dysfunction at baseline or after starting therapy and identify the factors, if any, related to the efficacy of remdesivir therapy on patient outcome. Patients included in the study were those who met all the following criteria irrespective of baseline glomerular filtration rate [including those already on maintenance hemodialysis (HD)] or baseline deranged liver function test. (1) Age >18 years, (2) COVID-19 reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction positive, (3) Meeting criteria for administration of remdesivir - [any one of the following: (a) COVID-19 pneumonia with respiratory rate >30/min or SPO<94% on room air, (b) Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)].

Peripheral Ulcerative Keratitis in a Young Lady with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Post Rituximab Infusion-A Case Report.

Aim: We report a new ocular finding of episcleritis (OD) and peripheral ulcerative keratitis (OS) in a 40-year-old lady with a 13-year history of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 3 weeks post-rituximab infusion.

Materials & Methods: Retrospective case report.

Results: A 40-year-old lady with a history of SLE and 3 weeks post rituximab infusion developed a new onset episcleritis (OD) and peripheral ulcerative keratitis (OS).

Patients And Methods: Medical charts of 62 (m:f- 20:42) patients with SJS/TEN hospitalized between 2010 and 2019 were analyzed retrospectively for clinical attributes, putative drugs and their indications, extracutaneous complications, and therapeutic outcome. The diagnosis was clinical based on established criteria.

There is growing consensus that interprofessional primary care is key to delivering timely, coordinated, and comprehensive care, especially in the older patient population who often live with complex and chronic needs. Despite significant investments in reforming health systems toward interprofessional primary care, there is a paucity of evidence describing the importance of interprofessional primary care for older patients and physicians. This qualitative descriptive study aimed to understand the use and utility of interprofessional primary care for older patients and family physicians from the perspective of different stakeholders within primary care in Ontario, Canada.

Validation of an indirect linkage algorithm to combine registry data with Medicare claims.

Background: The linkage of registries to Medicare claims data can help extend follow-up for patients receiving medical devices. In the present study, we tested and validated an algorithm that does not require patient identifiers to link data from a national vascular registry and Medicare claims data.

Methods: We used data from the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI), a registry capturing data from >600 centers for several different vascular procedures, and Medicare claims from 2003 to 2018.

Game-Based Dual-Task Exercise Program for Children with Cerebral Palsy: Blending Balance, Visuomotor and Cognitive Training: Feasibility Randomized Control Trial.

The objective of this exploratory randomized controlled trial (RCT) was to provide evidence for the feasibility and therapeutic value of a novel game-based dual-task balance exercise program in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Twenty children with CP were recruited and randomized into two groups: (a) the conventional balance training group (CG) and (b) the experimental group (XG), which received a game-based dual-task (DT) balance exercise program. Both groups received their respective therapy programs for 12 weeks at a frequency of three sessions per week.

Background: We aimed to identify and describe demand-side factors that have been used to support ATLS global promulgation, as well as current gaps in demand-side incentives.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional survey about demand-side factors that influence the uptake and promulgation of ATLS and other trauma-related CME courses. The survey was sent to each of the four global ATLS region chiefs and 80 ATLS country directors.

Background: Depression is linked to Alzheimer's disease (AD) but it is unclear whether depression is also associated with cognitive decline in the preclinical phase and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Multiple salt reduction strategies have been devised from time to time, addressing the issues of hypertension without considering the other essential factors, like the variability of salt sensitivity from the person to person. In this paper, we discuss how high salt consumption is one modifiable risk factor associated with hypertension among Indians, and there needs to be updated cut-off values. A thorough literature search on salt consumption articles on well-known search engines like Cochrane Library, PubMed, Google Scholar and Embase electronic database revealed a paucity of data in this field for India.

Clinical features and outcome of COVID-19 among PLHIV in Gujarat, India: A case series.

Information on people living with HIV (PLHIV) and current COVID-19 pandemic is still scarce in Indian setting. This case series of PLHIV with COVID-19 describes clinical characteristics and outcome in this special group of patients. This case series included 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among PLHIV admitted at a tertiary care hospital in Gujarat, India during April-December 2020.

Host-directed therapies for tuberculosis: quantitative systems pharmacology approaches.

Host-directed therapies (HDTs) that modulate host-pathogen interactions offer an innovative strategy to combat Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infections. When combined with tuberculosis (TB) antibiotics, HDTs could contribute to improving treatment outcomes, reducing treatment duration, and preventing resistance development. Translation of the interplay of host-pathogen interactions leveraged by HDTs towards therapeutic outcomes in patients is challenging.

The Evolution of Regulatory Elements in the Emerging Promoter-Variant Strains of HIV-1 Subtype C.

In a multicentric, observational, investigator-blinded, and longitudinal clinical study of 764 ART-naïve subjects, we identified nine different promoter variant strains of HIV-1 subtype C (HIV-1C) emerging in the Indian population, with some of these variants being reported for the first time. Unlike several previous studies, our work here focuses on the evolving viral regulatory elements, not the coding sequences. The emerging viral strains contain additional copies of the existing transcription factor binding sites (TFBS), including TCF-1α/LEF-1, RBEIII, AP-1, and NF-κB, created by sequence duplication.

Esophagogastroduodenoileal involvement of Crohn's disease (CD) is uncommon; less than 5% of adult patients will suffer from this condition, although this diagnosis is likely underestimated given the lack of routine evaluation of the upper gastrointestinal tract in the absence of symptoms. An interesting differential, including sarcoidosis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, tuberculosis, and Brunner's gland hyperplasia, should be considered. The consequences of this diagnosis can have profound impacts on the military career of a soldier.

Introduction: CKD5D is a high risk subgroup with high comorbidity burden, need for frequent visits to dialysis centre and a compromised immune system. The effect of SARS COV2 virus on this population is not well known.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled, all CKD5D with COVID 19 infection, admitted to our hospital, from 23 April to 30 June 2020 & whose outcome as discharge/mortality was known.

Microbial exopolysaccharide (EPS) is composed of a mixture of macromolecules such as proteins, polysaccharides, humic-like compounds, and nucleic acids, which encase microbial cells in a three-dimensional matrix. The literature shows that the EPS possess significant properties such as renewable, biodegradable, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and economically valued product, representing it as a green alternative to the synthetic polymer. The cost-effective and green synthesis of the EPS must be encouraged by using agro-waste as a raw material.

Epidemiology and Outcomes of Cooking- and Cookstove-Related Burn Injuries: A World Health Organization Global Burn Registry Report.

Cooking- and cookstove-related burns (CSBs) comprise a large proportion of burn injuries globally, but there are limited data on cooking behavior patterns to inform prevention and advocacy. Therefore, we aimed to describe the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of these injuries and highlight the potential of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Burn Registry (GBR). Patients with cooking-related burns were identified in the WHO GBR.
