New generation evaluations: video-based surgical assessments : A technology update.

Background: Surgical skill training, assessment, and feedback are the backbone of surgical training. High-quality skills require expert supervision and evaluation throughout a resource-intensive multi-year training process. As technological barriers to internet access and the ability to save and upload surgical videos continue to improve, video-based assessment technology is emerging as a tool that could reshape surgical training for the next generation of surgeons.

High-Throughput, Label-Free Isolation of White Blood Cells from Whole Blood Using Parallel Spiral Microchannels with U-Shaped Cross-Section.

Rapid isolation of white blood cells (WBCs) from whole blood is an essential part of any WBC examination platform. However, most conventional cell separation techniques are labor-intensive and low throughput, require large volumes of samples, need extensive cell manipulation, and have low purity. To address these challenges, we report the design and fabrication of a passive, label-free microfluidic device with a unique U-shaped cross-section to separate WBCs from whole blood using hydrodynamic forces that exist in a microchannel with curvilinear geometry.

Sex-specific effects of neonatal oral sucrose treatment on growth and liver choline and glucocorticoid metabolism in adulthood.

Hospitalized preterm infants experience painful medical procedures. Oral sucrose is the nonpharmacological standard of care for minor procedural pain relief. Infants are treated with numerous doses of sucrose, raising concerns about potential long-term effects.

Colorectal carcinoma and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy: is there a possible paraneoplastic association?

A plethora of paraneoplastic syndromes have been reported as remote effects of colorectal carcinoma (CRC). However, there is a dearth of data pertaining to the association of this cancer with demyelinating neuropathies. Herein, we describe the case of a young woman diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).

Spiritual intelligence of adolescents with diabetes based on demographic components.

Introduction: Spiritual intelligence is better defined as a capacity to discover and develop true meaning, deep purpose, and vision in life. The purpose of the present study was to determine the predictive role of demographic variables affecting the overall spiritual intelligence in diabetic adolescents.

Methods: In 2016, a cross-sectional study was conducted involving 200 adolescents with type 1 diabetes referring to the Iranian Diabetes Association consenting to participate.

Effects of Feedback on Midwifery Students' Self-Assessed Performance and Their Self-Assessment Ability: A Quasi-Experimental Study.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of verbal and written feedback in clinical midwifery placement on students' self-assessed performance and their self-assessment ability. This three-group quasi-experimental study was conducted on 120 students. Participants in the control group received clinical education through the routine method, while in the feedback groups received either verbal or written feedback methods on the basis of the sandwich feedback model.

The effect of training problem-solving skills for pregnant women experiencing intimate partner violence: a randomized control trial.

Introduction: Intimate partner violence (IPV) in pregnancy is considered as an additional threat to the maternal/fetal health. The present study was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of training problem-solving skills on IPV against pregnant women.

Methods: The present randomized clinical trial was conducted on 125 and 132 women visiting the health centers of Tehran as the intervention and the control groups, respectively; samples were selected using random stratified cluster sampling.

The effect of educational program on stress, anxiety and depression of the mothers of neonates having colostomy.

Objective: One of the problems that mothers of neonates having colostomy face is their disability in caring colostomy at home. This article is going to demonstrate the impact of educational program for these mothers on their sense of empowerment in caring their neonates.
