To describe the efficacy of belzutifan as a treatment for juxtapapillary retinal hemangioblastomas in patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease. A case and its findings were analyzed, and a systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed and Ovid MEDLINE. At a routine follow-up, a 63-year-old woman with a history of von Hippel-Lindau disease and slowly progressive bilateral juxtapapillary retinal hemangioblastomas presented with decreased visual acuity (VA) in the right eye resulting from significant lesion growth and an increase in central macular edema and exudate.

Background: The World Health Organization defined adolescent age group as a life span between 10 and 19 years. Adolescence is a phase of transition from childhood to adulthood, it is a unique stage for human development and a very sensitive period for laying the foundation of good health. Investment in this life-stage yields triple dividend.

Background: Access to the renal calyx is a challenging and crucial step for a successful percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). There are different methods of access tract dilatation, and there is no consensus on which method is the best. We conducted a comparative retrospective study on the safety and efficacy of the Alken metallic dilator and Amplatz dilator for renal access in PCNL.

We present a mechanically sheared image acquisition format for upright and open-top light-sheet microscopes that automatically places data in its proper spatial context. This approach, which reduces computational post-processing and eliminates unnecessary interpolation or duplication of the data, is demonstrated on an upright variant of axially swept light-sheet microscopy (ASLM) that achieves a field of view, measuring 774 × 435 microns, that is 3.2-fold larger than previous models and a raw and isotropic resolution of ∼460 nm.

Negligible quantitative research evidence exists on standardisation and psychometric validation of questionnaires that measure midwifery educators' confidence in their competence. This study developed a self-assessment of confidence in competence questionnaire in India based on the WHO Midwifery Educator Core Competencies (2014) with an aim to develop and validate a self-assessment tool measuring midwifery tutors' confidence in competence in imparting quality midwifery education. The questionnaire was developed as part of a multi-centre study to identify confident midwifery tutors for further training as educators, supporting India's rollout of professional midwives.

Topic: This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates the efficacy and safety of anti-VEGF injections compared with surgical intervention in improving visual acuity (VA) and reducing complications for patients with submacular hemorrhage (SMH) due to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Clinical Relevance: Determining the optimal intervention for SMH in AMD is crucial for patient care.

Methods: We included studies on anti-VEGF injections or surgical interventions for SMH in AMD from 7 databases, searched up to May 2024.

Background & Aims: The pivotal phase 3 True North (TN) study demonstrated the efficacy and safety of ozanimod in patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. This analysis assessed ozanimod during TN and the ongoing open-label extension (OLE) in patients with active disease who were naive to advanced therapies (ATs).

Methods: TN was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial consisting of 10-week induction period and 42-week maintenance period.

Background: Violence against women (VAW) is a significant public health problem. With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the frequency and severity of VAW has escalated globally. Approximately one in four women in Nepal have been exposed to either physical, psychological, and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, with husbands or male partners being the perpetrators in most cases.

Violence against women (VAW), particularly intimate partner violence (IPV) or domestic violence, is a major public health issue, garnering more attention globally post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown. Health providers often represent the first point of contact for IPV victims. Thus, health systems and health providers must be equipped to address survivors' physical, sexual and mental health care needs.

A fundamental understanding of gene regulation requires a quantitative characterization of the spatial organization and dynamics of chromatin. The advent of fluorescence super-resolution microscopy techniques such as photoactivated localization microscopy (PALM) presented a breakthrough to visualize structural features with a resolution of ~20 nm in fixed cells. However, until recently the long acquisition time of super-resolution images prevented high-resolution measurements in living cells due to spreading of localizations caused by chromatin motion.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers investigated how ULK1, a key protein that starts autophagy, behaves at a molecular level during amino acid starvation.
  • They discovered that ULK1 forms clusters of up to 161 molecules at the endoplasmic reticulum, which are crucial for forming autophagosomes.
  • The study revealed that while ULK1 doesn't need to be active for the initial clustering, its activation is essential for the clusters to grow and interact with other important proteins like Atg14 and LC3B.

Article Synopsis
  • Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant issue in low and middle-income countries like Nepal, where affected women face increased risks of mental health disorders due to insufficient support and societal stigma.* ! -
  • The study introduces the Domestic Violence Intervention (DeVI), which combines WHO's counseling program with violence prevention efforts, aiming to improve mental health and reduce IPV among women.* ! -
  • A randomized trial will involve 912 women aged 18-49 across 24 healthcare facilities in Madhesh Province, measuring the effectiveness of DeVI in decreasing IPV incidents and improving mental health scores.* !

Organelle interactions play a significant role in compartmentalizing metabolism and signaling. Lipid droplets (LDs) interact with numerous organelles, including mitochondria, which is largely assumed to facilitate lipid transfer and catabolism. However, quantitative proteomics of hepatic peridroplet mitochondria (PDM) and cytosolic mitochondria (CM) reveals that CM are enriched in proteins comprising various oxidative metabolism pathways, whereas PDM are enriched in proteins involved in lipid anabolism.
