Trauma levels and perspectives on dignified death among nurses and physicians who directly experienced the recent earthquake.

Background: Unexpected, sudden, and tragic losses can prompt us to reflect on the concept of a "good death." The earthquake disaster that struck our country in 2023 vividly demonstrated the challenging impact of such events, which can turn lives upside down and compel us to question the notion of a "good death." This study aims to determine the perceptions of a "good death" and the levels of trauma experienced by physicians and nurses who directly witnessed the earthquake disaster, and to understand the relationship between these factors.

Alterations in optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography findings in children with partial biotinidase deficiency.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate whether retinal neurovascular structural impairment in children with partial biotinidase deficiency (BD) could be detected early via optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA).

Methods: Eighty patients with partial BD and 80 control cases without any known systemic or ocular diseases were enrolled in this prospective study. Retinal neurovascular structures in the macular and optic disc regions were examined in using OCT and OCTA.

Association of Uric Acid Albumin Ratio with Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation after Cryoballoon Catheter Ablation.

Objective: Despite improvements in the technology of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF), recurrences are still a major problem, even after a successful procedure. The uric acid/albumin ratio (UAR), which is an inexpensive and simple laboratory parameter, has recently been introduced in the literature as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events. Hence, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the UAR and AF recurrence after catheter ablation.

Objective: This study aimed to determine whether peripheral vertigo is related to the lunar cycle, the seasons, or meteorological factors, in patients who presented to the ear, nose, and throat clinic.

Logbook of a Retinal Autograft.

This study aimed to evaluate the prognosis of a retinal autograft that was used to treat a macular hole that occurred after repeated vitreoretinal surgeries. A patient underwent repeated vitreoretinal surgery due to retinal detachment in the right eye, and the internal limiting membrane was also removed during the surgeries. After silicone oil removal, the patient developed recurrent retinal detachment and macular hole, and for this reason a retinal autograft was applied to the macular hole and silicone tamponade was administered.

Thrombolytic Therapy in Octogenarians with Acute Pulmonary Embolism.

Prognostic Significance of Controlling Nutritional Status Score (CONUT) in Patients Undergoing Pericardiocentesis.

Background: Malnutrition is associated with a poor prognosis in cardiovascular diseases, however the prognostic impact of the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score in patients with pericardial effusion (PE) is not known.

Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted among 301 consecutive patients with PE who underwent pericardiocentesis. CONUT score was calculated from serum albumin level, total cholesterol level and lymphocyte count.

A novel electrocardiographic parameter for the prediction of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery "P wave peak time".

Objectives: Patients with postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) have increased risk of both short- and long-term mortality and morbidity; therefore, prediction of POAF is crucial in the preoperative period of the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Electrocardiography (ECG) is the simplest and cost-effective tool in the preoperative workup of the patients for the prediction of POAF. A newly defined ECG parameter P wave peak time (PWPT) has been shown as a marker of atrial fibrillation development in non-surgical patients and we investigated its role in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Late recurrence of post-dural puncture headache.

The term post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) refers to a common complication that occurs after accidental dural puncture. One of the diagnostic symptoms of PDPH is a postural headache, which worsens dramatically while sitting or standing and is relieved mostly by lying down. This symptom is caused by a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, leading to decreased CSF pressure or low CSF volume, which provokes a shift of intracranial contents and traction on pain-sensitive structures in the upright position.

Retinal Vascular Changes in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: An Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Study.

Objectives: In the current study, we aimed to investigate retinal vascular density and blood flow changes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) (AngioVue Avanti, Optovue).

Methods: Thirty eyes of 30 patients with COPD and 30 eyes of 30 healthy controls were evaluated with OCTA. Foveal and parafoveal vessel density, inner retinal and choriocapillary flow area, and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area were measured and compared between the groups.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the quality of videos on YouTube as educational resources for patients and physicians about blepharoplastic surgery.

Methods: This study is a retrospective and cross-sectional study. A YouTube search for the term "blepharoplasty" was made and the first 210 videos were recorded (all video searches were done by clearing all search history without any user login).

Performance of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio for the prediction of long-term morbidity and mortality in coronary slow flow phenomenon patients presented with non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome.

In this study, we aimed to determine if neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio could predict long term morbidity and mortality in patients who hospitalized for non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) and had coronary slow flow on coronary angiography. In this observational study, 111 patients who presented with NSTE-ACS and diagnosed with coronary slow flow phenomenon on angiographic examination were included. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) calculated as the ratio of the number of neutrophils to the number of lymphocytes.

7-(2-Anilinopyrimidin-4-yl)-1-benzazepin-2-ones Designed by a "Cut and Glue" Strategy Are Dual Aurora A/VEGF-R Kinase Inhibitors.

Although overexpression and hyperactivity of protein kinases are causative for a wide range of human cancers, protein kinase inhibitors currently approved as cancer drugs address only a limited number of these enzymes. To identify new chemotypes addressing alternative protein kinases, the basic structure of a known PLK1/VEGF-R2 inhibitor class was formally dissected and reassembled. The resulting 7-(2-anilinopyrimidin-4-yl)-1-benzazepin-2-ones were synthesized and proved to be dual inhibitors of Aurora A kinase and VEGF receptor kinases.

Association of digoxin therapy with case fatality rate in acute pulmonary embolism.

Objective: Despite wide usage of digoxin for various diseases in cardiology practice, its benefit is controversial and moreover it had been associated with unfavorable outcomes in some previous studies. The aim of this present study was to demonstrate whether digoxin usage was related with worse outcomes or not in patients with acute pulmonary embolisms.
