Article Synopsis
  • Midostaurin is the first targeted treatment for AML FLT3 and reduces mortality by 23% compared to standard chemotherapy, but it has side effects, especially gastrointestinal issues.
  • A case was reported where a patient experienced acute pancreatitis symptoms after starting midostaurin, including abdominal pain and elevated enzyme levels.
  • The patient was treated with IV hydration and anti-symptomatic care, recovering after four days, but drug-induced acute pancreatitis remains a rare and complicated diagnosis without established links to midostaurin despite various potential mechanisms.

Objective: Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) is a vision-threatening finding observed in approximately half of Graves' disease patients. The pathophysiology of GO is unclear, and one of the suspected factors is oxidative stress. In our study, we compared the relationship between proptosis and SH-SS in patients diagnosed with GO.

Objectives: Parenchymal stiffness obtained by point shear-wave elastography (pSWE) in solid organs is used as a sign of damage in these organs. However, its clinical use and whether patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have increased ovarian tissue stiffness are still unclear. The aim of this study is to determine the parameters related to ovarian stiffness and whether there is an increase in ovarian stiffness in patients with PCOS compared with healthy controls.

Introduction: SARS-CoV attaches to human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor with the spike protein and infects cells. It can play a direct role in infection by acting as a receptor and/or co-receptor for blood group antigens, microorganisms, parasites, and viruses.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the blood group distribution of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to hospital and that of healthy donors.

Objective: Cytokines produced by bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are important components of the tumor microenvironment in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The roles of IL-17 and IL-23 in both autoimmune diseases and tumor growth have been demonstrated. The role of the IL-17/23 axis in apoptosis has also been demonstrated in studies.

Objective: This study investigated whether ELABELA plays a role in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the thyroid gland.

Methods: Of the 87 patients included in the study, 12 had undergone surgery for benign thyroid diseases, 30 had papillary thyroid cancer without invasion and/or lymph node metastasis in the surrounding tissues in the pathology report, and 45 had papillary thyroid cancer with invasion and/or lymph node metastasis in the surrounding tissues.

Results: In the macrocarcinoma group, the proportion of patients with severe ELABELA staining (61.

Background: It has been shown that bcl2, bcl-XL and mcl-1 protein levels are high in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells, and resultantly, apoptosis does not occur chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells. Apelin and apela (ELABELA/ELA/Toddler) are two peptide ligands for a class A G-protein coupled receptor called apelin receptor. Studies have shown that ELA inhibits apoptosis by inhibiting apoptotic proteins and activating anti-apoptotic proteins.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the preoperative HbA1c levels and the complications and mortality rates in the postoperative period in patients with diabetes undergoing a major surgical treatment.

Study Design: Descriptive study Place and Duration of Study: Deparment of Internal Medicine, Adana Numune Research and Training Hospital, Turkey, from January 2015 to December 2016.

Methodology: Diabetic patients, who underwent major surgery (a large resection) having preoperative HbA1c levels, were considered.

Elastography is a method to examine the increase in solid organs stiffness (SOS), and there is no data in the literature regarding to its use in patients with acromegaly. In this study, we aimed to investigate the change of SOS in patients with acromegaly and to determine the parameters closely related to SOS in same patient groups. We included 40 subjects with acromegaly and 40 healthy control subjects.

Background: Obesity mediates a series of operations in the body by increasing the production of proinflammatory cytokines. Cytokines play an important role in the development of non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between obesity and NTIS.

Conditioning regimens used during stem cell transplant provide prolonged control or cure of the disease in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In this study, we present a comparison of treatment results for 95 patients with ALL who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (AHSCT) with total body irradiation plus cyclophosphamide (TBI + Cy) or busulfan plus cyclophosphamide (Bu + Cy) as conditioning regimen. Median age was 25 (range: 9-54) years.
