Lipid Nanoparticle Formulations for the Skin Delivery of Cannabidiol.

The aims of this work were to formulate cannabidiol in different lipid carriers for skin delivery after topical application and to study their stability, interaction with the skin, and antibacterial activity. Solid lipid nanoparticles and nanostructured lipid carriers loaded with cannabidiol were prepared and characterized in terms of their physicochemical properties, colloidal stability, protection of the antioxidant capacity of cannabidiol, as well as their retention over time. Skin penetration was assessed using an in vitro model with human skin.

Psychiatrists on forensic psychiatry after the law 81/2014 in Italy: findings from a national pilot survey.

After the approval of the law 81/2014, a new care-framework has been outlined for the psychiatric offenders in Italy and alternative facilities have been gradually activated. This pilot national survey was conducted in order to explore the attitudes of a panel composed by Italian psychiatrists, engaged in forensic not-engaged in forensic activities, on the changes related to the application of the law. We employed an ad-hoc questionnaire named SOPF: (in english: The Psychiatric Forensic Assessment after the Closing of the Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals) to explore the opinions regarding ten relevant issues in the field of forensic psychiatry and forensic assessment.

Intake Characteristics as Predictors of Psychotherapy Outcome in a Practice Research Network in Argentina.

There are few studies exploring intake diagnostic characteristics as predictors of change in integrative naturalistic settings. The aim of this study is to explore baseline variables at the intake process and establish the predictive value of the individual trajectories of the patients. We recruited 259 patients undergoing an integrative psychotherapy network of psychotherapists from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Implementation of an Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) in Naturalistic Psychotherapy Settings: Qualitative Insights from Patients, Therapists, and Supervisors Perspectives.

Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) allows measuring intra-individual processes moment by moment, identifying and modeling, in a naturalistic way, individual levels and changes in different psychological processes. However, active EMA requires a high degree of adherence, as it implies a significant burden for patients. Moreover, there is still no consensus on standardized procedures for implementation.

Long-term quality of life and functional outcomes in adults surgically treated for intramedullary spinal cord tumor.

Introduction: Intramedullary spinal cord tumors (IMSCTs) are rare but clinically significant entities that may cause severe neurological decline with progressive pain and motor or sensory deterioration. Beyond the beneficial effects of surgical treatment and the long-term progression-free survival, neurological deficits may still persist after surgery, and information about the long-term patients' health-related quality of life (QoL) is still lacking. In this study, we investigate the patients' health perception 15 years after the surgery in an overall patients' wellbeing framework.

Implementation of a routine outcome monitoring and feedback system for psychotherapy in Argentina: A pilot study.

Introduction: Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) has emerged as a strong candidate to improve psychotherapy processes and outcome. However, its use and implementation are greatly understudied in Latin-America. Therefore, the aim of the present pilot study conducted in Argentina was to implement a ROM and feedback system grounded on a psychometrically sound instrument to measure session by session outcome in psychotherapy.

In the seventh century BC, it was the first Greek colony in the southern Italy and was colonized by the Eubei, then it was the turn of the Roman rule. In the Middle Ages, the island was the victim of many raids of the Barbary pirates.

Surgery for intramedullary spinal cord ependymomas in the neuromonitoring era: results from a consecutive series of 100 patients.

Objective: The established treatment of intramedullary spinal cord ependymomas (ISCEs) is resection. Surgical series reporting treatment results often lack homogeneity, as these are collected over long time spans and their analysis is plagued by surgical learning curves and inconsistent use of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM). The authors report the oncological and functional long-term outcomes in a modern series of 100 consecutive ISCEs that were resected between 2000 and 2015 by a surgically experienced team that consistently utilized IONM.

Primary non-Hodgkin diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the lacrimal sac: a rare case of aggressive tumor and literature review.

Primary malignant lymphomas of the lacrimal sac are rare neoplasms. They are mainly B-cell lymphoma with nonspecific and atypical symptoms, which can lead to misdiagnosis and a delay in the appropriate cure. Early diagnosis made by biopsy and the right choice of treatments can increase the chance of survival.

Effects of Prismatic Lenses on Lateral Axial Dystonia in Parkinson's Disease: A Pilot Study.

In Parkinson's disease (PD), postural abnormalities such as lateral axial dystonia (LAD) are relatively common. Evidence suggests that both peripheral and central mechanisms contribute to these postural abnormalities. We previously reported an improvement in LAD following the use of prisms in two PD patients.

Arthroscopic labral repair with all-suture anchors: a magnetic resonance imaging retrospective study with a 2.5-year follow-up.

Aim To evaluate radiological and clinical outcomes of a case series of patients affected by glenohumeral instability (Bankart lesion) or superior labrum tear from anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesions treated by arthroscopic repair using all-suture anchors. Methods Patients were operated by a single surgeon at a single Institution. Exclusion criteria were chondral lesions of the glenoid, rotator cuff lesions, previous surgery at the index shoulder, or a bony Bankart lesion.

Benefits in pain perception, ability function and health-related quality of life in patients with failed back surgery syndrome undergoing spinal cord stimulation in a clinical practice setting.

Background: Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) represents one main cause of chronic neuropathic or mixed pain, functional disability and reduced Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) can be a value for money option to treat patients refractory to conventional medical management (CMM). We estimated from real-world data: 1) the amount of reduced levels of HRQoL of target patients compared to general population, 2) the relationship between pain intensity, functional disability, and overall HRQoL, and 3) the improvement of patients’ health from SCS intervention, and 4) we give some insights and make some suggestions on the selection of a battery of patients’ reported health instruments for use in routine clinical practice.

Next-generation repeat-free FISH probes for DNA amplification in glioblastoma in vivo: Improving patient selection to MDM2-targeted inhibitors.

A next-generation FISH probe mapping to the MDM2 locus-specific region has recently been designed. The level of MDM2 gene amplification (high versus low) may allow selection of patients for cancer treatment with MDM2 inhibitors and may predict their responsiveness. We investigated the spectrum of MDM2 gene alterations using the new probes in vivo after visualizing single neoplastic cells in situ from a series of glioblastomas.

Anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion with porous tantalum implant. Results in a series with long-term follow-up.

Few papers have been published about the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with implant of porous tantalum cages. These studies included patients submitted to operation at a single level. To our knowledge, we report the results of the largest series of ACDF with implant of porous tantalum cages.

Primary intramedullary neurocytoma: Case report and literature analysis.

Background: Primary intramedullary neurocytoma is extremely rare. Due to its rarity, it is difficult to collect a wide series in a single institution to perform a survival analysis and give indications about prognosis and treatment.

Case Description: Here, we report on a case of a 37-year-old woman with primary intramedullary neurocytoma and perform a systematic statistical analysis of cases reported in the literature.

Recurrent Atypical Meningiomas: Combining Surgery and Radiosurgery in One Effective Multimodal Treatment.

Objective: Owing to their rarity and proteiform pathologic features, the clinical behavior of atypical meningiomas is not yet well characterized. Though the extent of resection is believed to be a key determinant of prognosis, limited data exist regarding optimal management of patients with recurrent disease.

Methods: In this 20-year retrospective case series, we reviewed the medical records of 46 patients with recurrent atypical meningiomas (185 lesions, 89 of which were local, 78 marginal, and 18 distant recurrences); treatment was radiosurgery (n = 60), surgery (n = 56), or both (n = 8).

Leksell Gamma Knife for pediatric and adolescent cerebral arteriovenous malformations: results of 100 cases followed up for at least 36 months.

Object: The goal of this study was to evaluate advantages, risks, and failures of Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) in a large series of pediatric and adolescent patients with cerebral arteriovenous malformations (cAVMs) who were followed up for at least 36 months.

Methods: Since February 1993, 100 pediatric and adolescent patients (≤ 18 years of age) with cAVMs have undergone GKRS at the authors' institution and were followed up for at least 36 months. Forty-six patients were boys and 54 were girls; the mean age was 12.
