Objective: This study examined trends in upper extremity (UE) neuropathies at a large urban tertiary care center in the Northeastern United States over the past five years, including the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method: A retrospective medical record review was conducted from 2018 to 2022. We collected data from unique patient records identified using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes for UE neuropathies.
This study evaluates trends in the utilization of emergency medical services (EMS) in New York City, the "epicenter" of the first "wave" of the coronavirus pandemic. We hypothesize that EMS call volumes decreased overall in New York City during the first year of the pandemic, specifically with respect to trauma/injury calls. Contrarily, we posit that calls for "sick" events increased given pervasive fear of virus transmission.

In addition, we sought to identify certain body composition variables that may be used to stratify patients into low- versus high-risk for gracilis myocutaneous free flap with skin paddle failure.
Methods: Using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database, we collected data for all patients who underwent myocutaneous free flap transfer from 2015 to 2021.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify modifiable medical comorbidities, laboratory markers and flaws in perioperative management that increase the risk of acute dislocation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients.
Methods: All THA with primary indications of osteoarthritis from 2007 to 2020 were queried from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database. Demographic data, preoperative laboratory values, recorded past medical history, operative details as well as outcome and complication information were collected.
Background: Rates of firearm violence (FV) surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is a paucity of data regarding older adults (OAs) (≥65 years old). This study aimed to evaluate patterns of FV against OAs before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, hypothesizing decreased firearm incidents, injuries, and deaths for OAs due to restricted social movement.

Despite this, prophylactic fixation remains controversial, and there is significant variability in surgeon preferences. Thus, this study aimed to determine which factors predict surgeon preferences for prophylactic contralateral pinning in SCFE patients.

There are limited studies that compare acute perioperative outcomes between KA and MA patients as it pertains to pain-related opioid consumption and hospital length of stay (LOS). This study aims to compare early KA and MA in restoring function and rehabilitation after surgery to reduce hospitalization and opioid consumption.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of all patients over the age of 18 years seen at our institution in the 2018 calendar year. International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes were used to identify patients with diagnoses of upper extremity peripheral nerve compressions.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the patterns of firearm violence against children before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the patterns of specific types of firearm violence against children over time (2016-2020).
Methods: Retrospective firearm violence data were obtained from the Gun Violence Archive. The rate of firearm violence was weighted per 100,000 children.
Background: The fundamental tenets of facial aesthetic surgery education have not changed in centuries. Research is beginning to demonstrate that the Neoclassical Canons and the Golden Ratio, Phi, have limited utilization in populations other than those of White European extraction.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze comparable raw data in the literature to determine (1) if there is interethnic variability in Neoclassical Canon and Phi measurements, and (2) if the measurements in these representative samples differ from the "ideal.
Background: This study sought to determine the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 stay-at-home (SAH) and reopening orders on trends and types of firearm violence in California, Ohio, and the United States, hypothesizing increased firearm violence after SAH.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective data (January 1, 2018, to July 31, 2020) on firearm incidents/injuries/deaths and types of firearm violence were obtained from the Gun Violence Archive. The periods for SAH and reopening for the US were based on dates for California.
Background: The impacts of social stressors on violence during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are unknown. We hypothesized that firearm purchases and violence would increase surrounding the pandemic. This study determined the impact of COVID-19 and shelter-in-place (SIP) orders on firearm purchases and incidents in the United States (US) and New York State (NYS).

This study seeks to determine if double fascicular transfer should be preferred over ulnar fascicular transfer to restore elbow flexion in patients with upper trunk brachial plexus injuries (BPI) by analyzing the current database of literature on the topic.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines.
