Despite New Zealand being a low-tuberculosis (TB) burden country, there are disproportionately high rates of TB in particular populations. Here, we report a rapid molecular diagnosis of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Rangipo strain responsible for the largest recurring TB cluster in New Zealand.

This causes a significant problem for quantifying their viability. The aim of the investigation was to develop a fluorescence assay to quantify the viable biomass of dental plaque biofilms.

The choice of Biolog plate, incubation time, and incubation conditions strongly influenced utilization profiles. For plaque biofilm microcosms, Biolog GP2 plates incubated anaerobically in an H2-free atmosphere gave the clearest profile.
