Waterborne contaminants in high intensity agriculture and plant production: A review of on-site and downstream impacts.

Waterborne contaminants pose a significant risk to water quality and plant health in agricultural systems. This is particularly the case for relatively small-scale but intensive agricultural operations such as plant production nurseries that often rely on recycled irrigation water. The increasing global demand for plants requires improved water quality and more certainty around water availability, which may be difficult to predict and deliver due to variable and changing climate regimes.

Digital Health Tools for Miscarriage Support: A Survey of Canadian Women Facing Early Pregnancy Loss.

Objectives: Early pregnancy loss (EPL) affects 1 in 4 recognised pregnancies, yet often lacks patient-centred supportive care. This study assesses the feasibility and acceptance of a digital health tool to support those affected by EPL. The objectives are to (1) understand the experiences of those who have miscarried, (2) explore their methods of accessing health information, and (3) determine their preferences regarding digital tool content and design.

Program impact and potential pitfalls of multi-purpose technologies (MPTs) for HIV prevention and contraception.

The overlapping epidemics of HIV and unplanned pregnancy disproportionately affect adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in sub-Saharan Africa. Prevailing dynamics driving benefits of any prevention method at the population level depend on: 1) population size, risk profile, and prevalence of method use, 2) method efficacy, and 3) method use-effectiveness. Adding a multi-purpose technology (MPT) to prevent HIV and pregnancy to this three-part equation results in scenarios that may enhance HIV population impact, even with methods that exhibit less than "perfect" method efficacy, by extending protection among existing users and attracting new users, resulting in greater population coverage.

A Patient-Centred Approach to Early Pregnancy Loss: The First 18 Months of a Canadian Outpatient Program for Early Pregnancy Loss (OPEL).

Objective: Manual vacuum aspiration is a safe surgical option for the management of early pregnancy loss. To provide rapid, patient-centred access to MVA, an Outpatient Program for Early pregnancy Loss ("OPEL") was established at our institution. Objectives were to (1) assess complete uterine evacuation rates; (2) assess complication rates, and (3) assess patient satisfaction with the program.

The role of background diet on the effects of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid supplementation in healthy pre-menopausal women: a randomized, cross-over, controlled study.

Background: The links between dietary fat intake, polyunsaturated fatty acid intake and breast cancer risk remain equivocal, with some studies pointing to improvements in risk upon omega-3 supplementation. However, the background diet is poorly controlled in most studies, potentially confounding this link. Therefore, this study examined the hypothesis that in order to see the benefits of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, the background diet must be low in fat.
