Background: Trace elements' (TEs) contamination of parenteral nutrition (PN) solutions is an ongoing concern. The aims of this study were 1) to measure actual TE concentrations in PN admixtures compared with ordered concentrations and 2) compare TE intake with current recommendations.
Methods: PN admixtures from discarded bags were collected from patients receiving home PN and on inpatient wards.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to describe long-term growth postpediatric liver transplantation and to conduct bivariate and multivariate analysis of factors that may predict post-transplantation growth in children who received a liver transplant from January 1999 to December 2008 at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with follow-up of up-to 10 years post-transplantation. Mean height and weight z scores and annual differences in mean z scores were plotted against time after transplantation.
Background: Catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) cause morbidity and mortality in patients with intestinal failure dependent on parenteral nutrition. Ethanol lock of central venous catheters may decrease CRBSI, but limited pediatric data are available.
Methods: Home parenteral nutrition patients with at least one previous CRBSI were initiated on a 70% ethanol lock protocol for a minimum of 4 hours.
First described in the 1500 s, scurvy is infrequently seen in industrialized countries today, although vulnerable patient groups remain. A 15-yr-old girl underwent liver transplantation at age 26 months for a primary diagnosis of biliary hypoplasia, and subsequently developed late allograft failure and progressive renal insufficiency culminating in listing for combined liver retransplantation and kidney transplantation at age 13 yr. She required regular hemodialysis treatment for 12 months prior to deceased donor organ availability, with a complicated clinical course including recurrent septic episodes and severe cachexia.
