Single layer graphene (SLG) was synthesized via high-quality chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on high-quality copper and subsequently transferred onto SiO2 and on n-GaAs substrates with varying doping electron concentrations (n = 1016, 1017, 5 × 1017, 1018, and 5 × 1018 cm-3). The n-GaAs substrates were grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The optical properties of the SLG were investigated through photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectroscopy measurements.

Detecting road cracks is essential for inspecting and assessing the integrity of concrete pavement structures. Traditional image-based methods often require complex preprocessing to extract crack features, making them challenging when dealing with noisy concrete surfaces in diverse real-world scenarios, such as autonomous vehicle road detection. This study introduces an image-based crack detection approach that combines a Random Forest machine learning classifier with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) to address these challenges.

Kidney Biopsy (KB) is a crucial diagnostic tool in the field of renal diseases and is routinely performed in nephrology departments. A previous survey conducted by the Société Francophone de Néphrologie Dialyse Transplantation (SFNDT) revealed significant disparities in clinical practices, sometimes conflicting with the existing literature and recently published recommendations. Objectives: To measure the health spillover effect in caregivers of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), we aimed to select the best instrument from 2 common health-related quality of life (QoL) instruments, the 3-level EQ-5D (EQ-5D-3L) and the Health Utilities Index Mark 3 (HUI-3), by assessing them.

Methods: Using consecutive sampling, 452 primary caregivers of patients with MS were asked to fill out a Care-related QoL instrument (CarerQol-7D), EQ-5D-3L, HUI-3, and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale between October 2019 and May 2020. Convergent and clinical validity were assessed to measure spillover effect in caregivers of patients with MS.

In this work, a self-powered, solar-blind photodetector, based on InZnSnO (IZTO) as a Schottky contact, was deposited on the top of Si-doped β-GaO by the sputtering of two-faced targets with InSnO (ITO) as an ohmic contact. A detailed numerical simulation was performed by using the measured J-V characteristics of IZTO/β-GaO Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) in the dark. Good agreement between the simulation and the measurement was achieved by studying the effect of the IZTO workfunction, β-GaO interfacial layer (IL) electron affinity, and the concentrations of interfacial traps.

Tryptophan (Trp), an α-amino acid, is the precursor of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), which is involved in a variety of features of metabolic function and human nutrition. Evidence highlights the role of Trp metabolites (exclusively 5-HT) in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract; however, the mechanisms of action involved in the release of 5-HT in the GI tract are still unknown. Considering the fact that variations of 5-HT may facilitate the growth of certain GI disorders, gaining a better understanding of the function and release of 5-HT in the GI tract would be beneficial.

D-Serine, a direct, full agonist at the D-serine/glycine modulatory site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate-type glutamate receptors (NMDAR), has been assessed as a treatment for multiple psychiatric and neurological conditions. Based on studies in rats, concerns of nephrotoxicity have limited D-serine research in humans, particularly using high doses. A review of D-serine's safety is timely and pertinent, as D-serine remains under active study for schizophrenia, both directly (R61 MH116093) and indirectly through D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) inhibitors.

We report on the rationale and design of an ongoing NIMH sponsored R61-R33 project in schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder. This project studies augmenting the efficacy of auditory neuroplasticity cognitive remediation (AudRem) with d-serine, an -methyl-d-aspartate-type glutamate receptor (NMDAR) glycine-site agonist. We operationalize improved (smaller) thresholds in pitch (frequency) between successive auditory stimuli after AudRem as improved plasticity, and mismatch negativity (MMN) and auditory θ as measures of functional target engagement of both NMDAR agonism and plasticity.

This study is a numerical simulation obtained by using Silvaco Atlas software to investigate the effect of different types of dielectric layers, inserted between the channel and the gate, on the performance and reliability of an a-ITZO TFT. Replacing the SiO2 oxide layer with a high-k dielectric layer gives the concept of the electrical thickness, known by the equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) in which the physical thickness (PT) can be increased to improve the device reliability without increasing the effective thickness of the gate dielectric. The unique physical properties of the superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPIONs) have made them candidates of choice in nanomedicine especially for diagnostic imaging, therapeutic applications and drug delivery based systems. In this study, superparamagnetic FeO NPs were synthesized and functionalized with a biocompatible thermoresponsive copolymer to obtain temperature responsive core/shell NPs. Core/shell nanostructures based on silica, fluorescent ZnO quantum dots (QDs) and superparamagnetic FeO nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared and fully characterized by the combination of different techniques and the physical properties of the nanostructures were studied. We demonstrate the efficiency of the atom transfer radical polymerization with activators regenerated by electron transfer process to graft (co-)polymers of different structures and polarity at the surface of metal oxide NPs. The influence of the polymer chain configuration on the optical properties of the ZnO/polymer core/shell QDs was enlightened.
