[Current problems of cochlear implantation].

The Center of Cochlear Implantation at St-Petersburg ENT Research Institute was set up in 1997. For three years of its activity 19 cochlear implantations were made in patients of different age. All of them received Combi 40/40+ implants (Med-El, Austria).

[Surgical treatment of glomus tumors in the middle ear].

Twelve 42-63 year-old women were treated surgically for glomal tumors of the middle ear. The operation implied removal of the posterior wall of the external acoustic meatus along the canal of the facial nerve. This provided creation of a wide cavity and approach directly to the base of the tumor.

[Treatment results in patients with juvenile angiofibroma of the nasopharynx].

Surgical and radiation treatment outcomes are available for 46 patients with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). Recurrences occurred in 17 (37%) of 44 operated patients. They were subjected to reoperation or radiotherapy.

[Medical support for the landing in the Eltigen area in 1943].

The authors have used archive data to show the peculiarities of medical support of naval landing of troops at the region of Eltigen. The 279-th medical battalion immediately after landing was under constant fire from all sides, including the sea. Dugouts and caponiers were erected in mountains to deploy hospital facilities.

[The organizational aspects of treating minor wounds in modern war (1)].

Loss replacement for the Armed Forces and national economy is considered to be the most complicated and actual problem in the conditions of NBC warfare. On the basis of the analysis of the 2nd World War and local conflicts over the past decade the authors came to a conclusion that precisely minor wounded, as well as minor ill and injured would be the basic source for recouping medical and irretrievable combat losses in active army. The article analyses the possible aspects of stage-by-stage rehabilitation of minimally wounded in the conditions of modern war, and proposes ways for their rapid return to the ranks.

[The peripheral blood indices following penetrating wounds of the chest and abdomen and their prognostic significance].

Blood losses and traumatic stress provoke changes in cellular composition of blood. The greatest blood losses are more frequent in penetrating chest wounds than in penetrating abdominal injuries. A great number of wounded contract leukocytosis which is also more frequent among patients with chest wounds.
