Article Synopsis
  • Shallots in India are affected by various viruses, with Shallot virus X (ShVX) being a significant concern for crop production; ShVX has a monopartite genome consisting of positive-sense single-stranded RNA.
  • The study successfully generated the first complete genome sequence of ShVX from India, revealing 8911 nucleotides and notable variability compared to isolates from other countries.
  • The findings suggest that recombination and site-specific selection are influencing the evolution of this ShVX isolate, marking the first comprehensive analysis of ShVX's complete genome from Southeast Asia.

Article Synopsis
  • * Targeting PIM kinases for cancer treatment is promising due to their short lifespan in cells, which may lead to fewer side effects, and new strategies involve developing small molecules and PROTACs to degrade these proteins rather than just inhibiting them.
  • * The review highlights the importance of understanding the unique structure and function of PIM kinases, along with insights into new therapeutic approaches that could effectively target these kinases in the development of future cancer treatments.

Conjugated sugars showed antifreeze activity in the cuticle by ice recrystallization inhibition rather than thermal hysteresis, enhancing freezing capacity at the surface of B. juncea leaves. Antifreeze biomolecules play a crucial role in mitigating the physical damage from frost by controlling extracellular ice crystal growth in plants.

Post flowering stalk rot (PFSR) of maize caused by the species complex is a serious threat to maize production worldwide. The identification of species causing PFSR based on morphology traditionally relies on a small set of phenomic characteristics with only minor morphological variations among distinct species. Seventy-one isolates were collected from 40 sites in five agro-climatic zones of India to assess the diversity of spp.

Plant cuticle, the site of perception of stress signals, is an extracellular hydrophobic barrier that covers the epidermis of the above-ground parts. This lipidic layer has been explored for its cutin and wax composition. However, reports on the cuticle proteins are scanty.

Using gamma-ray-induced mutagenesis, we have developed a mutant (named G2) of that produced two- to three-fold excesses of secondary metabolites, including viridin, viridiol, and some yet-to-be identified compounds. Consequently, this mutant had improved antibiosis against the oomycete test pathogen . A transcriptome analysis of the mutant vis-à-vis the wild-type strain showed upregulation of several secondary-metabolism-related genes.

Reduced seed production in onion is associated with Onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV), a filamentous Potyvirus. Onion is also infected with other filamentous virus particles suspected to be Allexivirus. RT-PCR was used to detect mixed infection of both the viruses in leaves and bulbs.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It is consumed for its refreshing and stimulating properties. Carbohydrates are the major constituents of coffee beans and serve various functions like binding of aroma, stabilization of foam, formation of sedimentation, and increased viscosity of the extract.
