Background: The significance of autonomic dysfunction in premature ventricular contraction-induced cardiomyopathy (PVC-CM) remain unknown.
Objectives: Utilizing a novel "dual stressor" provocative challenge combining exercise with premature ventricular contraction (PVCs), the authors characterized the functional and molecular mechanisms of cardiac autonomic (cardiac autonomic nervous system) remodeling in a PVC-CM animal model.
Methods: In 15 canines (8 experimental, 7 sham), we implanted pacemakers and neurotelemetry devices and subjected animals to 12 weeks of bigeminal PVCs to induce PVC-CM.
Frequent premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) promoted eccentric cardiac hypertrophy and reduced ejection fraction (EF) in a large animal model of PVC-induced cardiomyopathy (PVC-CM), but the molecular mechanisms and markers of this hypertrophic remodeling remain unexplored. Healthy mongrel canines were implanted with pacemakers to deliver bigeminal PVCs (50% burden with 200-220 ms coupling interval). After 12 weeks, left ventricular (LV) free wall samples were studied from PVC-CM and Sham groups.

Drug self-administration and ICSS yield concordant metrics of abuse potential across a diverse range of drug mechanisms of action. The "rate of onset," defined as the velocity with which a drug produces its effect once administered, has also been implicated as a determinant of abuse-related drug effects in self-administration procedures, but this variable has not been systematically examined in ICSS.

This study investigated the effect of lipidic extracts of saladette tomato pomace (STP) and Serenoa repens (SR) on the prostate and bladder in a rat obese model induced by high-carbohydrate diet.
Results: High-sucrose-fed rats showed higher prostate weight as well as increased contractility and stromal and epithelial hyperplasia in the prostate.
Background: Hypoestrogenic (HE) women are one of the most vulnerable groups for the development of obesity and its complications. Capsaicin and exercise have demonstrated to reduce body weight and to improve insulin sensitivity in different animal models, but it is unknown whether their combination could be useful in HE obese females.
Methods: We investigated whether topical capsaicin, exercise or their combination had better therapeutic effects in an obesity-hypoestrogenism model.
Serenoa repens has been widely used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia and lower urinary tract symptoms; however, most of the studies have been conducted in individuals with normal weight and not obese. In this study, the effects of a lipidic extract of S. repens, in markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, and growth factors, in obese rats with testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia, were investigated.
