Background: Evaluation of the influence of the age of the patients upon the outcomes of liver resection (LR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: HCC patients who underwent LR between 2010 and 2020 were analyzed. They were divided into 3 groups depending on the patient's age.

Background: To evaluate the impact of tumor size on the perioperative and long-term outcomes of liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: We reviewed the patients' data who underwent liver resection for HCC between November 2009 and 2019. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to the tumor size.

Introduction: COVID-19 severity and mortality predictors could determine admission criteria and reduce mortality. We aimed to evaluate the clinical-laboratory features of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 to develop a novel score of severity and mortality.

Methodology: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to five Egyptian university hospitals.

Background: There is a sudden rise in infectious diseases, with special concern to the most recent SARS-CoV 2 outbreak. A retrospective study was conducted to study the effect of this outbreak on neonatal sepsis as a global issue that poses a challenge for pediatric management and to identify its risk factors, microbial profile, and mortality rate at King Faisal Medical Complex, Taif, KSA, a COVID-19-tertiary care segregation hospital.

Methods: This research included 111 neonates with a culture-proven diagnosis of neonatal sepsis (4 and 62 cases during 2019 and 2020, respectively).

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, is a new type of acute infectious respiratory syndrome that usually presents with mild flu-like symptoms. However, the disease caused widespread illness and death worldwide, and new sequelae are still being discovered. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was isolated from the fecal samples of some infected patients.

Electronic distance meters (EDMs) are widely used in different applications, such as surveying and civil engineering. In order to calibrate an EDM, different techniques can be used, including displacement interferometers and reference baselines. In this paper, an indoor baseline is designed and then accurately measured using femtosecond laser pulses from an optical frequency comb to be used for EDM calibration.

Herein, we assess the antioxidant potential of core-shell yttrium oxide nanoparticles functionalized with ethylene glycol methacrylate phosphate (EGMP). The antioxidant properties of these nanoparticles were investigated in heat stressed models of 21 rats (heat stressed group, group B). Different samples of blood, serum, and tissue homogenate were collected at different time intervals in order to measure oxidative biomarkers such as enzymatic antioxidants (SODs, GPX, GST, GR, and TAC) and oxidative byproducts (MDA, PC, and 8-OHdG).

Organ transplant in patients with congenital bleeding disorders is a challenge requiring an integrated approach of various specialists. Inherited factor VII deficiency is the most common of the rare bleeding disorders, with a wide set of hemorrhagic features. Although a kidney allograft is the most frequent type of solid-organ transplant, it is rarely performed in individuals with congenital hemorrhagic disorders.

The surface of ultrafine yttrium oxide nanoparticles (NPs) with mean size of 7-8 nm was modified with a functional polymer layer to improve their dispersion and impart fluorescent properties for imaging purposes. Surface functionalization was achieved by silanization of yttrium oxide NPs with 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate followed by grafting of a co-polymer made of acrylic acid (AA) and ethylene glycol methacrylate phosphate (EGMP). The polymer shell decreases the surface energy of NPs, enhances their polarity, and, as a result, improves their colloidal stability.

A novel series of the title compound 4-(5-arylazo-2-hydroxystyryl)-1-methylpyridinium iodide has been synthesized via condensation reactions of the arylazosalicylaldehyde derivatives - with 1-methyl-picolinium iodide . The structures of the new arylazo compounds were characterized by ¹H NMR, IR, mass spectroscopy, as well as spectral and elemental analyses. The electronic absorption spectra of arylazomerocyanine compounds were measured in different buffer solutions and solvents.

We report the case of a woman diagnosed with bilateral luteinized thecoma of the ovaries with sclerosing peritonitis, multiple intraperitoneal cystic lesions, and extraperitoneal lesions of the liver, inferior to the spleen, and high suspicion of bone marrow involvement. The patient developed profound pancytopenia with rapid clinical deterioration and a fatal outcome.
