Head and neck cancer (HNC) involves cancers of the mucosal surfaces from the sinuses to the larynx, with around 3900 new cases annually in women and 8600 in men from 2016-2018.
A study assessed the teaching on HNC for UK medical students, finding that 23.2% received no education on it, and 54.3% of those who did were taught through large lectures.
The majority (87.1%) of respondents felt there should be more focus on HNC in medical training, highlighting concerns about current knowledge and confidence in recognizing symptoms and referral criteria.
