This study evaluated the stability of novel nutraceuticals containing jabuticaba freeze-dried peel (FJP) and a mix of potential probiotic L. fermentum strains [139, 263 and 296 (LfM)] (JM: FJP + LfM; JFM: FJB + LfM + fructooligosaccharides) through determination of thermal stability, viable cell counts, bacterial physiological status, phenolic compound contents, and antioxidant activity during 90 days of storage (11% relative humidity, 4 and 25 ºC). JM and JFM were thermally stable, with satisfactory stability in temperature variations.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn the parameter spaces of nonlinear dynamical systems, we investigate the boundaries between periodicity and chaos and unveil the existence of fractal sets characterized by a singular fractal dimension that deviates greatly from the fractal sets in their vicinity. This extreme fractal dimension stands out from the typical value previously considered universal for these parameter boundaries. We show that such singular fractal sets dwell along parameter curves, called extreme curves, that intersect periodicity cascades at their centers of stability across all scales of parameter spaces.

The mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of TL are still not fully understood, but it is known that factors related to the host and the parasite act in a synergistic and relevant way to direct the response to the infection. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs) frequently occur in the intensive care unit (ICU) and are correlated with a significant burden.
Methods: We implemented a strategy involving a 9-element bundle, education, surveillance of CAUTI rates and clinical outcomes, monitoring compliance with bundle components, feedback of CAUTI rates and performance feedback. This was executed in 299 ICUs across 32 low- and middle-income countries.
Utilizing a paradigmatic model for the motion of interacting self-propelled particles, we demonstrate that local accelerations at the level of individual particles can drive transitions between different collective dynamics, leading to a control process. We find that the ability to trigger such transitions is hierarchically distributed among the particles and can form distinctive spatial patterns within the collective. Chaotic dynamics occur during the transitions, which can be attributed to fractal basin boundaries mediating the control process.
