There are limited data on the effects of a high-fructose diet on the female reproductive system. Although metformin has some functional effects on female fertility, its reproductive outcome on high fructose diet-induced metabolic syndrome is unclear. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the impact of a high fructose diet on histomorphological and molecular parameters of the reproductive organs and vaginal microbiota as well as the treatment potential of metformin.

Background: It has been reported that High-Fructose (HF) consumption, considered one of the etiological factors of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), causes changes in the gut microbiota and metabolic disorders. There is limited knowledge on the effects of metformin in HF-induced intestinal irregularities in male and female rats with MetS.

Objectives: In this study, we investigated the sex-dependent effects of metformin treatment on the gut microbiota, intestinal Tight Junction (TJ) proteins, and inflammation parameters in HF-induced MetS.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how resveratrol supplementation and regular exercise impact cardiac stress responses in hypertensive rats, induced by a specific hormonal and salt treatment.
  • - Both resveratrol and exercise led to reduced blood pressure and improved heart function by modulating antioxidant responses and reducing inflammation, while also affecting specific stress-related proteins.
  • - These findings suggest that both interventions offer protective benefits against hypertension-induced heart damage, highlighting their potential as therapeutic options for managing hypertension-related cardiac issues.

Endometritis is characterized by inflammation of the endometrial lining that leads to reduced reproductive potential. Restoring the impaired hormonal balance is an important component of endometritis treatment. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effects of resveratrol on estrogen and progesterone hormone status in endometritis.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study explored the protective effects of the ERS inhibitor tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) on liver damage caused by DOCA-salt-induced hypertension in male Wistar rats.
  • * TUDCA treatment led to reduced blood pressure and improved liver health by normalizing protein expressions related to inflammation and fibrosis in hypertensive rats, suggesting potential therapeutic benefits of targeting ERS in hypertension management.

Endometritis is an inflammatory disorder of the endometrial lining of the uterine tissue in postpartum stage. Endometritis mostly progresses subclinically and causes infertility through the disruption of the hormonal balance. It has been shown in many studies that resveratrol has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Aging is a main risk factor for development of cardiovascular diseases associated with the impairment of endothelial function in both sexes. In the present study, age-related changes in vascular responsiveness, epigenetic modifications of vessel wall, and blood biomarkers related to endothelial functions were examined in an age- and sex-dependent manner. Acetylcholine (ACh)-induced relaxations of the aorta were decreased in 3-, 6-, and 12-month-old rats compared to those in 1-month-old female rats.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study on male Wistar albino rats induced hypertension using a combination of nephrectomy, hormone injections, and a high-salt diet, then tested the effects of an ERS inhibitor called tauroursodeoxycolic acid (TUDCA).
  • * Results showed that TUDCA improved blood pressure, enhanced blood vessel function by increasing nitric oxide levels, and altered protein expressions related to endoplasmic reticulum stress, indicating its potential to protect vascular health by restoring calcium balance and regulating cell death and growth processes.

Aims: Liver X receptors (LXRs) play an important role in the regulation of cholesterol, fatty acid and glucose metabolisms together with inflammatory processes. In the present study, the effects of LXR agonist GW3965 on vascular reactivity and expression of functional proteins in DOCA-Salt induced hypertension were examined.

Main Methods: Hypertension was induced through unilateral nephrectomy and deoxycorticosterone-acetate (DOCA) injection (20 mg/kg, twice a week) for 6 weeks in male Wistar albino rats (8 weeks old).

Hypertension is a risk factor for the cardiovascular diseases. Although, several drugs are used to treat hypertension, the success of the antihypertensive therapy is limited. Resveratrol decreases blood pressure in animal models of hypertension.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most used drugs in musculoskeletal disorders, but their systemic adverse effects limit their therapeutic benefit in local inflammation. On the other hand, topical preparations of capsaicinoids are widely used for musculoskeletal disorders as a complementary therapy. In this study, the effects of both topical capsaicinoids-containing patch and local subcutaneous capsaicin application on the anti-inflammatory action of NSAID were examined.
