Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare demographic characteristics, medical care, and outcomes among patients with assault-related concussion (ARC) versus sports and recreation-related concussion (SRC).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of 124 patients (62 ARC, 62 SRC) aged 8 to 17 years presenting to the care network of a large tertiary care pediatric hospital between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2014 with a concussion diagnosis at time of presentation. We abstracted patient demographics, initial medical care visit characteristics, and outcome data, and compared proportions using χ2 testing and Fisher exact test and medians using Wilcoxon rank sum test.

Introduction and Importance: Tuberculosis is one of the leading infectious causes of mortality worldwide. In the United States, foreign-born persons account for 70% of tuberculosis (TB) diagnoses. Comparatively, testicular cancer is much less common.

A significant number of individuals with epilepsy will be intractable to medication. These individuals experience an elevated mortality rate and negative psychosocial consequences of recurrent seizures.

However, recent studies have identified deviations from this pattern. Such flexibility in dispersal patterns can allow individuals greater ability to acclimate to changing environments.

In this study, we use a controlled mesocosm experiment to examine how original planting diversity affects the ability of constructed freshwater wetlands to recover structurally and functionally after a disturbance (i.e.

Often mitigation projects fail to restore ecosystem services of the impacted natural wetlands. One of the key ecosystem services of newly created wetlands is carbon accumulation/sequestration, but little is known about how planting diversity (PD) affects the ability of herbaceous wetland plants to store carbon in newly created wetlands.

Introduction: Faced with rapid changes in the cytopathology workplace, a number of expanded entry-level competencies (ELCs) were developed by the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee with input from various communities of interest. The Resource Sub-Committee of the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee was developed to assist the programs in finding appropriate resources to bring cytotechnology programs up to more modern standards of practice.
Materials And Methods: A survey was conducted asking program directors to rank their level of perceived need for each of the new ELCs.
Objective: To examine the association between physiological hyperarousal and response accuracy on reaction time tasks among individuals with insomnia.
Design And Setting: This study was conducted at affiliated Veterans Administration (VA) and academic medical centers using a matched-group, cross-sectional research design.
Participants: Eighty-nine individuals (48 women) with primary insomnia, PI (MAge = 49.
Study Objectives: In recent years, polysomnography-based eligibility criteria have been increasingly used to identify candidates for insomnia research, and this has been particularly true of studies evaluating pharmacologic therapy for primary insomnia. However, the sensitivity and specificity of PSG for identifying individuals with insomnia is unknown, and there is no consensus on the criteria sets which should be used for participant selection. In the current study, an archival data set was used to test the sensitivity and specificity of PSG measures for identifying individuals with primary insomnia in both home and lab settings.

Human papillomavirus testing is now routinely used to screen for cervical carcinoma and precursor lesions of the cervix (cotesting and reflex testing) and these results are considered in patient triage and management.
Objective: To provide information about current laboratory practices in human papillomavirus testing and consensus best practice statements based on results from the College of American Pathologists' laboratory-based survey funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Context: Atrophic vaginitis is a commonly reported subset of Papanicolaou test results that are negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy, but interpretive criteria overlap with atrophic changes and other entities, hindering concordance among observers.
Objectives: To report on the participant concordance from 2000 to 2009 in the College of American Pathologists Interlaboratory Comparison Program in Gynecologic Cytopathology, with a reference interpretation of atrophic vaginitis, and to investigate cytologic features of good and poorly performing slides to identify criteria useful in the interpretation of atrophic vaginitis.
Design: We summarized 18 302 responses from the program for slides with a reference interpretation of atrophic vaginitis.
Recently, new self-adhesive flowable composite resin systems have been introduced to the market. These new composite resin systems reportedly bond to dentin and enamel without the application of an adhesive bonding agent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength to enamel of two new self-adhesive flowable composites with and without the use of an etch-and-rinse bonding agent.

The universal bed model is an innovative care delivery system that allows patient care to be managed in one setting from postoperation to discharge. We hypothesized that the universal bed model in the context of cardiac surgery would improve outcomes and efficacy.

Objectives: To test the reliability and validity of insomnia diagnoses listed in the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV-TR and the International Classification of Sleep Disorders, second edition (ICSD-2).
Design: Multitrait-multimethod correlation design.

Following exposure to traumatic events, approximately 19% of combat veterans develop posttraumatic stress disorder. One of the main symptoms of this mental illness is reexperiencing the trauma, which is commonly expressed in the form of chronic trauma-related nightmares. In these patients, nightmares can fragment sleep, decrease sleep quality, and even cause fear about going to sleep.

Vulnerable populations that may be at increased risk of sleep apnea include African Americans (AAs) and individuals with psychiatric disorders, yet little is known about whether such individuals are at increased risk of CPAP non-adherence. This study examined rates of CPAP adherence in a large sample of AA and Caucasian American (CA) military veterans with and without comorbid mental health disorders.

We also examined how well ACT and polysomnography (PSG) measures discriminated (1) individuals with and without insomnia; and (2) nights participants rated worse, the same as, or better than average.
Methods: Thirty-one primary insomnia sufferers and 31 normal sleepers completed up to 3 consecutive monitoring nights with wrist ACT and PSG in their homes.
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) against a sleep hygiene education control therapy in patients with primary or comorbid insomnia.
Design And Setting: Randomized, parallel-group, clinical trial conducted at a single Veterans Affairs medical center, with recruitment from March 2001 to June 2005.
Participants: Eighty-one adults (n = 11 women; mean age, 54.
Insomnia is a widespread and debilitating disorder. Regardless of the initial cause, it may assume a chronic course perpetuated by psychological and behavioral factors. Although sedative-hypnotic medications are the most common treatment for insomnia, they pose certain risks such as adverse effects and dependence.

Participants: Seventy-nine (43 women) individuals with PI (MAge = 50.
Although sleep disturbance is considered a hallmark of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), objective evidence for sleep disturbance in patients with PTSD has been equivocal. The goal of the current investigation was to objectively examine sleep disturbance among women with PTSD in their home environment. Women with PTSD (n = 30) and a control group (n = 22) completed three nights of actigraphy monitoring.

We examined the efficacy of a graded in-vivo exposure therapy for enhancing CPAP adherence using a retrospective, case series design. Objective CPAP adherence data were obtained on clinical patients who attended 1 or more sessions of exposure therapy with a behavioral sleep psychologist.
