EtOH-LN cryoembedding workflow to minimize freezing artifact in frozen tissues: A pilot study in preparing tissues compatible with mass spectrometry-based spatial proteomics application.

Coolant-assisted liquid nitrogen (LN) flash freezing of frozen tissues has been widely adopted to preserve tissue morphology for histopathological annotations in mass spectrometry-based spatial proteomics techniques. However, existing coolants pose health risks upon inhalation and are expensive. To overcome this challenge, we present our pilot study by introducing the EtOH-LN workflow, which demonstrates the feasibility of using 95 % ethanol as a safer and easily accessible alternative to existing coolants for LN-based cryoembedding of frozen tissues.

Bilateral metachronous breast malignancies: Malignant phylloides and invasive breast carcinoma-a case report.

A 57-year-old Malay nullipara initially presented with a right breast lump that was increasing in size but defaulted follow-up. Two years later, she developed a contralateral breast lump. She only returned to the hospital when the right breast lump had become painful, 4 years from its onset.

Background: The International Academy of Cytology (IAC) Yokohama reporting system was recently proposed to serve as a standardized diagnostic platform for the cytological interpretation of breast fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Five cytological categories were suggested, linked to a certain risk of malignancy (ROM). Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has been widely accepted as a safe method for diagnosis of salivary gland lesions and its accuracy is increased with increasing the experience of the physician. This study was conducted to examine the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of FNAC of salivary gland lesions by cyto-histological correlation and to identify the discrepancies that contribute to false diagnoses.

Method: A retrospective study was carried out over a 7-year period from 2003 to 2009 to review the cases of patients with salivary gland lesions who underwent FNAC with histopathological confirmation.

The traditional classification of infiltrating breast carcinomas into ductal and lobular can be diagnostically challenging in a small proportion of cases with equivocal histological features and in in-situ lesions with overlapping features. Malignant cervical teratoma in an adult presenting with impending airway obstruction.

Extragonadal teratomas and germ cell tumours are uncommon. Most teratomas of the head and neck present in the paediatric age group. Occurrence of such tumours in an adult is extremely rare and, to date, less than 40 cases have been reported in the literature.
