Aim of the study was to examine the relationship between oxidative stress and overtraining syndrome in athletes by evaluation in serum oxidative and antioxidant status. In 43 athletes with non-functional overreaching (NFO)/overtraining syndrome(OTS) and 40 athletes without NFO/OTS -control athletes (CA), diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs) and biological antioxidant potential (BAP) in serum, as well as ratio of d-ROMs and BAP test measurements - marker of oxidative stress, were assessed. Baseline data collection performed in both groups of athletes - with NFO/OTS and CA, followed by data collection in athletes with NFO/OTS after 28 days of rest.

Positive effects of aesthetically appreciated designs have long been studied and confirmed since the 19th century: such designs are more enjoyable, they are more forgivable for glitches and can increase users' performance. In the field of information visualization, studies of aesthetics are still a niche approach. In the current study, we aim to specifically understand which parameters in a visualization of node-link diagrams make them aesthetically pleasing-an important extension to already existing research on usability and readability aspects.

The intestinal epithelium constitutes an efficient barrier against the microbial flora. Here, we demonstrate an unexpected function of IL-33 as a regulator of epithelial barrier functions. Mice lacking IL-33 showed decreased Paneth cell numbers and lethal systemic infection in response to Salmonella typhimurium.

Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) were recently characterized by their ability to produce significant amounts of type-2 signature cytokines and drive central beneficial and pathological features of type-2 immune responses. Although factors such as IL-33 and IL-25 were shown to have ILC2 activating capacity, it is not well understood, how ILC2 responses are regulated in vivo. Here we provide compelling evidence that IL-27-signalling directly inhibits ILC2 responses and reveal a novel mechanism for negative regulation of the innate arm of type-2 immunity.

Liver fibrosis is a consequence of chronic liver diseases and thus a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Clinical evidence and animal studies suggest that local tissue homeostasis is disturbed due to immunological responses to chronic hepatocellular stress. Poorly defined stress-associated inflammatory networks are thought to mediate gradual accumulation of extracellular-matrix components, ultimately leading to fibrosis and liver failure.

Background & Aims: The soluble hematopoietin receptor Epstein-Barr virus-induced protein (EBI)-3 is an immune regulator that has been associated with the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. However, the concept that EBI3 is part of an interleukin (IL)-27 heterodimer that mediates chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases has been challenged by the description of IL-35, a bioactive cytokine comprising EBI3 and IL-12 p35. We investigated the roles of IL-27 and IL-35 in chronic inflammation of the intestine.

Well-controlled fabrication of dislocation networks in Si using direct wafer bonding opens broad possibilities for nanotechnology applications. Concepts of dislocation-network-based light emitters, manipulators of biomolecules, gettering and insulating layers, and three-dimensional buried conductive channels are presented and discussed. A prototype of a Si-based light emitter working at a wavelength of about 1.

Regular analysis of questionnaires distributed among students of self-supporting workshops carried out at the Training Center is aimed at elucidating the students' opinions about organization of workshops in order to optimize it and at collection of marketing information on the training and medical activities of the firm. The majority (90%) of respondents gave a positive answer to the question: "Will you advise your colleagues to go to workshops at the Training Center?" Exhibitions of materials offered by the firm and training of students to use these materials demonstrate the advantages thereof. Analysis of questionnaires showed that just a little part of dentists know the true price of their work and that the major part of the market of dental service is oriented, judging by the proposed costs, mainly at the solvent population.

Scientifically-based organization of consultations and treatment of patients at dental institutions is proposed, based on the balance between the time spent by patients in the queue and the equipment downtime. The proposed organization will decrease the total duration of treatment.
