Background: The transition between nursing school and nursing practice has been well studied and recognized as a turbulent time for new nurses. Existing literature suggests that transition to practice (TTP) programs can successfully support new nurses through this challenging period. However, TTP program outcomes have not been studied related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which altered TTP experiences for many new nurses by limiting their access to clinical sites for hands-on patient care experience and shifting delivery of nursing education and TTP programs from in-person to virtual environments.

Background: Given the recent detection of tetrodotoxin (TTX) in bivalve molluscs but the absence of a full collaborative validation study for TTX determination in a large number of shellfish samples, interlaboratory assessment of method performance was required to better understand current capabilities for accurate and reproducible TTX quantitation using chemical and immunoassay methods.

Objective: The aim was to conduct an interlaboratory study with multiple laboratories, using results to assess method performance and acceptability of different TTX testing methods.

Methods: Homogenous and stable mussel and oyster materials were assessed by participants using a range of published and in-house detection methods to determine mean TTX concentrations.

Advances in neural networks have garnered growing interest in applications of machine vision in livestock management, but simpler landmark-based approaches suitable for small, early stage exploratory studies still represent a critical stepping stone towards these more sophisticated analyses. While such approaches are well-validated for calibrated images, the practical limitations of such imaging systems restrict their applicability in working farm environments. Background: Existing best practices to monitor and prevent health care-associated infections (HAIs) were ineffective during the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased patient susceptibility toward infections, reduced resources, and increased use of agency nurses.

Problem: A review of the US hospitals revealed a 60% increase in central line-associate bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and a 43% increase in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in 2020. A large, academic, level 1 trauma center in Houston, Texas, experienced similar challenges at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Large and densely sampled sensor datasets can contain a range of complex stochastic structures that are difficult to accommodate in conventional linear models. This can confound attempts to build a more complete picture of an animal's behavior by aggregating information across multiple asynchronous sensor platforms. The performance of three near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) instruments was compared through the investigation of coriander seed authenticity. The Thermo Fisher iS50 NIRS benchtop instrument, the portable Ocean Insights Flame-NIR and the Consumer Physics handheld SCiO device were assessed in conjunction with chemometric modelling in order to determine their predictive capabilities and use as quantitative tools through regression analysis. Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) is a persistent synthetic surfactant widely detected in the environment. Developmental PFOS exposures are associated with low birth weight and chronic exposures increase risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes. This study assesses the application of a handheld, near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) device, namely the NeoSpectra Micro, for the determination of oregano authenticity. Utilising a large sample set of oregano (n = 295) and potential adulterants of oregano (n = 109), models were developed and validated using SIMCA 15 software. The models demonstrated excellent predictability for the determination of authentic oregano and adulterant samples.

Background: The Northeast Region VA Nursing Alliance is an academic-practice partnership founded in 2007 between the Veteran's Administration (VA) Boston/Bedford HealthCare Systems and six schools of nursing.

Method: The purpose of this retrospective review was to examine the outcomes of the Northeast Region VA Nursing Alliance in accordance with the mission, goals, and sustainability of the alliance.

Results: The review confirmed that the alliance has successfully accomplished the mission and goals and continues to be a leader in academic-practice partnerships.

We present the first study of a novel, more sensitive method for the characterization of nanoparticles (NPs). This approach combines detection via a protein nanopore with modification of its interaction behavior using a molecular adaptor. We identify different populations of 3-mercapto-1-propanesulfonate (MPSA)-modified-gold NPs using the biological nanopores α-hemolysin (αHL) and its M113N mutant equipped with a noncovalently bound γ-cyclodextrin molecule as a stochastic sensor.
