Young People Transitioning From Child and Adolescent to Adult Mental Health Services: A Qualitative Systematic Review.

To critically synthesise the literature on the lived experience of young adults about their transition to adult mental health services including the perspectives of key people in their world: parents, carers and clinicians. Young people within child and adolescent mental health services are usually required to transition to adult mental health services at the age of 18, despite evidence showing cognitive and emotional development impacted by childhood trauma, illness and adverse life events. This qualitative systematic review searched relevant electronic databases, policy documents, grey literature and theses examining original qualitative peer-reviewed studies published from 2009 to 2022 in English.

Addressing the Mental Health Needs of Inmates Through Education for Correctional Officers-A Narrative Review.

Introduction: People with mental illness are overrepresented in correctional facilities. Correctional officers (COs) lack education to respond to inmates with mental illness. A review was conducted of mental health education programs for COs to identify factors related to effectiveness.

Is austerity a cause of slower improvements in mortality in high-income countries? A panel analysis.

Background: The rate of improvement in mortality slowed across many high-income countries after 2010. Following the 2007-08 financial crisis, macroeconomic policy was dominated by austerity as countries attempted to address perceived problems of growing state debt and government budget deficits. This study estimates the impact of austerity on mortality trends for 37 high-income countries between 2000 and 2019.

Glossary: economics and health.

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increasing focus on how the economy is rebuilt and the impact this will have on population health. Many of the economic policy proposals being discussed have their own vocabulary, which is not always understood in the same way within or between disciplines. This glossary seeks to provide a common language and concise summary of the key economic terminology relevant for policymakers and public health at this time.

Exploration of Mental Health Issues of Students among University Health Science Academics in Japan.

Academic educators in universities are well positioned to detect early signs and symptoms of unexplained behaviour change in students that could be the beginning of mental health issues. The purpose of this research was to explore the attitudes, beliefs, knowledge and practices of university academics in Japan towards health science students with psychological/mental health issues. This study used a qualitative descriptive design.

Population health post-pandemic: critiquing the economic approach to recovery.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed that the economic crisis is inseparable from the health and inequalities crisis. This commentary identifies the key overarching economic decisions that governments will make that are likely have a larger impact on the health of nations than the direct impact of COVID-19 itself. We present these economic decisions to a health audience.

Is austerity responsible for the recent change in mortality trends across high-income nations? A protocol for an observational study.

Introduction: Mortality rates in many high-income countries have changed from their long-term trends since around 2011. This paper sets out a protocol for testing the extent to which economic austerity can explain the variance in recent mortality trends across high-income countries.

Methods And Analysis: This is an ecological natural experiment study, which will use regression adjustment to account for differences in exposure, outcomes and confounding.

Adaptation of the Clinical Global Impression for Use in Correctional Settings: The CGI-C.

Provision of mental health care in correctional settings presents unique challenges. There is a need for a simple-to-use tool to measure severity of mental illness in correctional settings that can be used by mental health staff from different disciplines. We adapted the severity scale of the Clinical Global Impression for use in correctional settings, which we have called CGI-C, and carried out a reliability study.

Defining health and health inequalities.

Objectives: To examine existing definitions of health and health inequalities and to synthesise the most useful of these using explicit rationale and the most parsimonious text.

Study Design: Literature review and synthesis.

Methods: Existing definitions of health and health inequalities were identified, and their normative properties were extracted and then critically appraised.

Impact of Political Economy on Population Health: A Systematic Review of Reviews.

Although there is a large literature examining the relationship between a wide range of political economy exposures and health outcomes, the extent to which the different aspects of political economy influence health, and through which mechanisms and in what contexts, is only partially understood. The areas in which there are few high-quality studies are also unclear. To systematically review the literature describing the impact of political economy on population health.

Qualitative evaluation of a postgraduate course in mental health nursing.

This evaluation aimed to explore mental health nurses' experience of one postgraduate (PG) Mental Health Nursing course in Australia. It investigated students' recognition and acquisition of new skills to improve their clinical practice, thereby enhancing consumer and family outcomes. In addition, nurse educators were interviewed to ascertain their impression of the impact of course materials on nursing practice and nurses' confidence in the clinical field.

Tailored Melt Electrowritten Scaffolds for the Generation of Sheet-Like Tissue Constructs from Multicellular Spheroids.

Melt electrowriting (MEW) is an additive manufacturing technology that is recently used to fabricate voluminous scaffolds for biomedical applications. In this study, MEW is adapted for the seeding of multicellular spheroids, which permits the easy handling as a single sheet-like tissue-scaffold construct. Spheroids are made from adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs).

Dimension-Based Design of Melt Electrowritten Scaffolds.

The electrohydrodynamic stabilization of direct-written fluid jets is explored to design and manufacture tissue engineering scaffolds based on their desired fiber dimensions. It is demonstrated that melt electrowriting can fabricate a full spectrum of various fibers with discrete diameters (2-50 µm) using a single nozzle. This change in fiber diameter is digitally controlled by combining the mass flow rate to the nozzle with collector speed variations without changing the applied voltage.

Rehabilitation service models for people with physical and/or mental disability living in low- and middle-income countries: A systematic review.

Objective: To compare models of rehabilitation services for people with mental and/or physical disability in order to determine optimal models for therapy and interventions in low- to middle-income countries.

Increasing undergraduate nursing students' cultural competence: an evaluation study.

Background: Cultural competence has become increasingly important for Chinese health professionals because of internationalization and the opening up of China to overseas visitors and business as well as a growing awareness of the needs of minority groups within China. This study aimed to evaluate a workshop designed to improve cultural competence among Chinese undergraduate nursing students.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of the post-operative adverse effects associated with mosquito net mesh in comparison to commercial hernia mesh for inguinal hernia repair in low income countries.

Purpose: Abdominal wall hernia is a common surgical condition, with more than 20 million estimated to be repaired each year. Mesh repair is the standard for most repairs; however, the mesh material itself may be a barrier to care, the cost prohibitively high for some populations and healthcare systems. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to produce a pooled comparison between the adverse event rate associated with mosquito net mesh and commercial hernia mesh.

A Qualitative Study of a Maintenance Support Program for Women at Risk of Homelessness: Part 3: Societal Factors.

Homelessness is a collective societal problem, and people who are homeless are often treated as society's underclass, stigmatised and excluded. These issues are often exacerbated among homeless people from countries other than the one in which they are currently living. In this article we report findings from a qualitative study of homeless women, case managers and health professionals from a Maintenance Support Program and their personal accounts and insights into their experiences of the program.
