In recent years, the use of 2-benzylbenzimidazole opioids ('nitazenes') has increased with them becoming one of the most prominent synthetic opioid subclasses of novel psychoactive substances. With the increased prevalence, there is also a concern of the dangers to public health with the use of nitazenes due to their high potency especially with polypharmacy. To aid in the detection of such compounds, it is important that forensic toxicology laboratories maintain up-to-date compound libraries for drug screening methods and that sensitive analytical instrumentation is available to detect the low blood/plasma concentrations of more potent drugs.

Deformed wing virus (DWV) was first detected in dead honey bees in 1982 but has been in honey bees for at least 300 years. Due to its high prevalence and virulence, they have been linked with the ongoing decline in honey bee populations worldwide. A rapid, simple, semi-automated, high-throughput, and cost-effective method of screening colonies for viruses would benefit bee research and the beekeeping industry.

Phaeoviruses () are large icosahedral viruses in the phylum Nucleocytoviricota with dsDNA genomes ranging from 160 to 560 kb, infecting multicellular brown algae (Phaeophyceae). The phaeoviral host range is broader than expected, not only infecting algae from the Ectocarpales but also from the Laminariales order. However, despite phaeoviral infections being reported globally, Norwegian kelp species have not been screened.

This protocol describes the methodology and methods for a collaborative project with eight Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care (PHC) organisations, across three Australian states and one territory, to increase clinical service performance and access to preventive health and health promotion services for preventing, identifying, treating, and managing dementia risk in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Aboriginal participatory action research (APAR) methodology will be the framework for this project, incorporating continuous quality improvement (CQI), informed by research yarning with stakeholder groups, comprising community members and PHC staff and service providers and data collected from the auditing of client health records and the mapping of existing clinical processes and health services at each partnering PHC organisation. The qualitative and quantitative data will be summarised and discussed with stakeholder groups.

Non-crystalline silica mineraloids are essential to life on Earth as they provide architectural structure to dominant primary producers, such as plants and phytoplankton, as well as to protists and sponges. Due to the difficulty in characterizing and quantifying the structure of highly disordered X-ray amorphous silica, relatively little has been done to understand the mineralogy of biogenic silica and how this may impact the material properties of biogenic silica, such as hardness and strength, or how biosilica might be identified and differentiated from its inorganic geological counterparts. Typically, geologically formed opal-A and hyalite opal-A are regarded as analogs to biogenic silica, however, some spectroscopic and imaging studies suggest that this might not be a reasonable assumption.

New Findings: What is the central question of this study? What is the predictive relationship between self-reported scales to quantify perceptions of fatigue during exercise and gold standard measures used to quantify the development of neuromuscular fatigue? What is the main finding and its importance? No scale was determined to be substantively more effective than another. However, the number of ongoing contractions performed was shown to be a better predictor of fatigue in the motor system than any of the subjective scales.

The purpose of this study was to assess how severe acute hypoxia alters the neural mechanisms of muscle activation across a wide range of torque output in a fatigued muscle. Torque and electromyography responses to transcranial and motor nerve stimulation were collected from 10 participants (27 years ± 5 years, 1 female) following repeated performance of a sustained maximal voluntary contraction that reduced torque to 60% of the pre-fatigue peak torque. Contractions were performed after 2 h of hypoxic exposure and during a sham intervention.

People with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) typically experience greater levels of exercise-induced fatigue compared with healthy individuals. Therefore, this study examined performance fatigability in PwMS when executing a prolonged submaximal contraction. Nine PwMS (38 ± 7 yr, 6 females) and nine healthy controls (35 ± 6 yr, 4 females) performed an elbow flexion at 15% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) for 26 min.
